It would be nice to get Odorizzi back in the starting rotation.

Thorpe gave up a lead off HR. Below average FB (mid to high 80's) with a big sweeping curve that he couldn't throw for strikes early on. Had to resort to moving his fastball around the zone.

Twins down 2-0 after Thorpe gave up 3 straight singles. His breaking stuff is hanging, can't throw it for a strike and the Pirates are sitting on his mediocre FB.

3-0 Pirates and it could have been a LOT worse. Thorpe walked 4 this inning (lucky to get a come backer for a 2-6 DP). Then after 2 more walks, Twins pitching coach comes out. 1st pitch, grooved a belt high FB that the hitter drove half way up the high right center wall for a double that drove in the single run they got. Walked then next hitter (bases full) but fortunately got a grounder (hit hard but right at the 3rd baseman) for a FO to end the inning.

Alcala, who the Twins picked in a trade last year, has looked fairly decent. Had control problems at the beginning (butterflies no doubt pitching in his 1st MLB game) but has a 96-97 mph FB (little to no movement on it so probably a 2 seamer) and a + change up. Needs a 3rd pitch to be more effective.
2 innings now under his belt: 2 hits, 0 BB's and 2 SO's.

Twins finally score a run. Cruz with an opposite field dribbler thru the infield with 2 runners on that the RF stupidly threw to the plate with no chance to get the Garver allowing Cruz to advance. 2nd and 3rd and Sano walked so the basea full with 1 out.
Kepler just cleared the bases with a screamer liner that sailed over the CF's head. He's hit the ball hard all 3 AB shaking off a mini-slump after starting out the season with back to back HR's in the 1st game.

Wisler with a nice inning (2nd outing in a row) retiring the Pirates in order. Has a better FB (93) than he displayed in the first few games (high 80's) and now his slider has some nice late movement.

Several Twins' hitters are struggling at the plate early in this season.
Kepler after that hot start in game 1 has been quiet until tonight. Arraez has not yet adjusted to virtually every pitch being a FB with most thrown inside so he can't wait out a pitcher and slap opposite field singles/doubles. Garver has been facing mostly off speed stuff after feasting on FB's for HR's last year. Cruz hasn't hit a HR since the Sox series. Sano, despite hitting back-to-back screaming line drive HR's a couple of nights ago, has been consistently late on FB's even down the middle. Donaldson (now out with a muscle strain) struggled out of the gate.
So far it's been the Polanco and Rosario along with the bottom of the lineup guys like Marwin who have been carrying the team. Once the Twins hit on all cylinders, watch out. This is a very dangerous hitting lineup.

Twins bring in Rogers to pitch the 9th despite the tie score. FB (94) and his slider doesn't have it's usual bite. Gave up a broken bat bloop single to center, runner stole 2nd but Rogers got out of the inning on a really nice bare hand pick up and strong throw to 1st by Marwin to get the runner. Marwin also made some defensive gems a few games back when he was at 1st that Sano wouldn't have made. Very versatile in the field and has made some nice contributions at the plate which are a bonus.

Twins have something cooking in the ninth against the Pirates' closer (Burdi, former Twins farm hand who's cranking at 97 mph with a good and I mean really good slider to mix in). Polanco hit a bloop single to left after fouling off several pitches, Garver showing better patience drew a walk. No outs with Arraez at the plate who lined a shot to right center that almost fell in that advanced both runners.
Cruz hit a towering fly to dead center over the CF's head for a walk off, game winning "single" that would have been an easy double and plated both runners. 5-4 final.
On to the next game.
