Twins have been making the Pirates' pitcher work. Don't know if was by design but Marwin both bluffed then tried to bunt to get on before SO followed by Adrianza who also bluffed a bunt before lacing a single to C after fouling off 6-7 pitches.
Pirates go to the pen for a L v. L matchup with Avila at the plate (and Stratton's pitch count in the 30's) who gets the out.
Romo in for the 8th.

I just noticed Romo and myself share the same birthday (March 4) although I am a few years older .

Romo's 1st 2 sliders had a lot of bite in for strikes then started missing just off the plate. Issued a walk, runner stole 2nd and then 3rd easily before allowing a SF. Romo has a high leg kick (even with runners on base) so this is something to look out for when other teams get a runner with speed on base as every team scouts future opponents re: their tendencies and this is one that could be exploited.
Got the last out but now it's 5-4 Twins.

Rogers in for the 9th. Will face 2 L's and 1 switch hitter so it's an ideal match up for him to close the game out but will have to face Polanco (again the Pirates' version) who's accounted for all of their runs with a 3 run HR in the 3rd.
Not a good start. 1st hitter punched a slider into left on a 1-2 count for a single followed by a hard hit double right down the line (why Adrianza wasn't shaded to his right to guard the line I have no idea). 2nd and 3rd, no one out and Polanco at the plate. Rogers "blew" a 94 mph FB (was throwing it 95-96 at the beginning of the season) by him albeit belt high right over the heart of the plate (mistake he got away with). I'd walk the next hitter intentionally to set up a force at the plate or possible inning ending DP.
But no. With the infield drawn in, Rogers delivers yet another meatball over the plate that was hit hard up the middle that plated both runners so the Pirates get the walk off winning hit.

Twins gave this game away. Baldeli should have had the pitching coach come out to settle Rogers down, have him nibble around the plate to see if he could get the hitter to bite on pitches out of the zone but if he didn't and gets a walk so be it. With the bases full, the infielders could have played at medium depth, instead of drawn in, for a FO at the plate and then play regular depth for the final out.
That and Romo giving up 2 straight steals that Avila had no chance to throw the runner out by not using a slide step delivery to the plate resulting in a SF that drew the Pirates to within 1. Trust me, opposing teams will start running on Romo every chance they get if they get a runner on.
Twins' 7 game winning streak as does Roger's streak of straight saves 17 dating back to last season. Oh well, on to the next game.

Rogers on 2 days rest I figured was a done deal. Oh well.
Twins had never started 11-2, and won't this year also.

Definitely gave the game away...there will be those hiccups. Now, great teams keep it down as a hiccup and not a coughing fit, with throw up in the mouth.
I believe in this team. They are a vet team coming off a 100 win season, with a smart manager. Like some one said...on to the next.

These types of games are always going to happen. Yes - they gave it away. Plenty of little things to iron out as they go forward. They can learn a lot from this one.
Garver and Arraez (evethough they didn't play today) just don't look the same. I know they've said that pitching staffs have a ton more info on both of them. But pitchers still don't make each and every pitch with correct placement. Plenty of pitches I've seen so far this year that both of them would have made solid contact on last year. I even thought that Arraez's follow-through last year had a "Carew-esque" type of look at times. I haven't seen that similarity at all this year.

Nothing like Carew. Here's a short highlight vid showing that Carew held his hands low with an open stance.
BTW, I was at Angel's stadium when Carew got his 3000th hit as well as the All-Star game in San Diego when he hit back-to-back triples.

I wasn't talking about the stance. Just the follow-through. At times last year, Arraez had that same motion in the arms and elbows. I don't see that this year.
