Jake Odorizzi is throwing his bullpen session today, which means he won't pitch in the Cleveland series.

Ken Rosenthal @ken_Rosenthal 2m
MLB, union making progress on deal that would allow for doubleheaders consisting of two seven-inning games, sources tell me and @jaysonst. Would be for 2020 season only. Parties believe more doubleheaders will be necessary as schedule is adjusted. Idea is to preserve pitching.

Berrios started strong and losing control already. I tuned in late (lalter part of the 3rd). Didn't realize it was only a 2 game set v. the Cards and it's the Indians tonight.
Saw the replay on the 2 run HR by Lindor. Berrios grooved a belt high FB over the middle of the plate despite being ahead in the count 0-2 so he made 1 mistake. Otherwise, he looks like he has good command of all of his pitches and has 6Ks in 5 innings altho his pitch count is 96 already because the Indians have a lot of patient hitters who force pitchers to go deep into the count and foul off a lot of pitches.
Bieber OTOH has pitched extremely well (8Ks through 5). Very efficient (4 to 1 ratio strikes v. balls on only 55 pitches). He's also benefited from several calls that Berrios hasn't been getting. Couple of Twins hitters already have looked back at the plate ump in disbelief.

Littel in for the 6th and already in trouble. Runners at 2nd and 3rd with only 1 out. Seeing eye single thru the L side and then another hit compounded by an error by Sano. Walks the next hitter making it bases full (pitch b4 the walk was down in the zone that even the Indians hitter thought was strike 3 by his reaction). Plate ump is definitely not doing any of the Twins pitcher any favors like he has for Bieber.
Littel was very fortunate to get out of the inning knocking down a hot come-backer and that led to a 1-2-3 DP.

Twins finally had something going in the bottom of the 6th. Buxton with a solid single to left. Bieber had to pitch from the stretch for the first time since Arraez got on in the 3rd and the potential threat of Buxton taking off to steal has affected Beiber's mechanics and control (1st 2 pitches were in the dirt). Kepler followed with an opposite field single going with the outside pitch. Bieber, who was ahead 0-2 to Donaldson, ran the count to 3-2 before Josh swung at a pitch in the dirt. Polanco then flied out to end the inning.
Bieber is clearly a different pitcher with runners on base. Twins have to be more patient at the plate but it's tough when the plate ump is extending the strike zone for him.

I really don't like Littel and then giving him a 2nd inning. WTF is up with that??
Gave up a 1 out walk. Got lucky on a pick off throw (runner didn't even bother sliding and Sano tagged him on the top of his helmet). Runner initially was called safe, Twins challenged and replay showed he was out but took several minutes for the call to be reversed. Little then gives up another walk, Garver non-chalanted an inside pitch (passed ball) putting the runner in scoring position with Lindor, who has provided all of the Indians offense tonight, at the plate. Lindor hit a liner to R center but Buxton covered a lot of ground and made the catch (dived but didn't really need to) to get out of the inning. Just the same, Littel is a waste of a roster spot IMO.

Bieber is virtually unhittable without runners on base. Thru 8, now has 13K's (14 in his 1st start) as the Twins keep swinging at pitches in the dirt.

Twins down to their final 3 out. Kepler, Donaldson and Polanco. Bieber out but the Indians closer is in. Hopefully someone, anyone, can get on for Cruz who with 1 swing can tie the game.

No such luck. 3 quick outs (2 pop ups after Kepler SO).
Tomorrow's match up isn't favorable as the Indians will have Clevinger going against Dobnak.

Twins got to Clevinger early, 3 in the 1st (Kepler led off with a HR) and another HR by Avila in the 2nd.
4-0 going into the bottom of the 4th. Dobnak pitching well (only given up 3 hits and 1 walk).

Despite walking 3, Clevinger escapes w/o giving up any runs in the bottom of the 4th. Issued a free pass to the lead off hitter but Arraez grounded into a DP. Next 2 were 5 pitch walks but he got Adrianza to SO (came in to replace Donaldson at 3rd due to muscle tightness).
Not only is his command off (both FB and curve) but Clevinger is even more antsy on the mound than usual. Rocking back and forth repeated before delivering a pitch even with runners on base (don't know why he doesn't get called for a balk).

Dobnak struggling with his control (pitch count at 94) but managed to get out of the 5th unscathed. Marwin in at 1st to spell Sano made a really nice running catch on a little looping pop up he had to turn his back on, run full speed and then make an over the shoulder catch where the 2nd baseman would ordinarily be but the Twins had the shift on with Arraez on the opposite side of 2nd so he had no chance to make a play nor Kepler because the ball was too shallow. If Marwin doesn't make that play, Dobnak would have been taken out as he issued a lead off walk.
