ok... so it looks to me that we are currently in a horrible desperate position to get a quarterback now need and every other team knows it.
And anyone who has ever negotiated for anything knows it is never good to enter a negotiation when your opponent knows your other options are limited. Guaranteed you will have to overpay.
And everyone knew there was a good possibility we would be sitting right here last year and we did virtually nothing to prepare for it.
People were so afraid to waste even one 1st or 2nd last year on a QB but now everyone is saying spend the equivalent of 2 firsts and 2 seconds for a QB. (and not the best QB but the 4th best QB). And even that might not get it done.
So yes, our options stink but who here didn't see this coming??? And it really is managements fault we are where we are...no foresight.

The problem is there are too many teams desperate for a QB, but if you identify the guy you want, get him, no one will balk at the price of 3 first round picks if the QB hits. The one thing that alleviates the desperation is the amount of cap space the Vikes have next year. As far as last year goes, at the vikings pick there wasn't a QB worth a damn as far as they were concerned, so unless you thought Levis was the guy, a first or second rounder was a useless endeavor to use on a QB. Also they did try to move up for Richardson last year and were unable to do so.

I feel pretty good about our situation so I really don't understand your worry or angst. Are you somebody that likes to worry??
Vikings have Darnold and Hall to start the year and will likely add a QB prospect.
Vikings will have a ton of FA money next season and have added some nice pieces this year.
After Stroud last year I don't really care for the QBs. I have heard Vikings were interested in Richardson. Don't know if that rumor has ever been confirmed.

Half the teams ahead of them would like more draft capital to improve their teams and there will be elite blue chip talent available at #11 because there are about 15 or so elite players in this draft so it is not trading out of the elite spots. I think all 3 of New England, Arizona and LAC are willing to move at and get the pieces they need to rebuild the rosters. Chicago is locked in and no one else is locked in. Heck someone might be willing to trade up for one of the 2 WR's maybe in the top 5? Worst case scenario LAC will trade out because they need picks to rebuild the roster the new HC wants. Still not sold QB's go 1 thru 4 and still not sold that Patriots will go QB.

We have 2 big players that are going to cost a lot of money-so how much salary cap are we going to have next year and the following? Im content to move up with just this years 2 #1 picks otherwise I would stay where we are at. The pick next year will be higher than this years pick is my guess.

I agree, I can't see how the Patriots would waste a pick on a QB without any support whatsoever for him for probably the two years.

The answer to that is probably more than 60 million in cap after extensions to both Jefferson and Darrisaw. So a ton. Also, the QB's in next year draft are all pretty much crap except for Sanders.

Passing on the opportunity to draft one is always a waste.

If Maye drops to 11, I guess we would have to consider him, but to move up and draft him...yeah, that would concern me, given all the red flags that are popping up regarding his play.
I admit, I paid no attention to his game tape last season, but the more you watch it, the more it looks like Maye is far from being NFL ready.

And even that might not get it done. So yes, our options stink but who here didn't see this coming??? And it really is managements fault we are where we are...no foresight. 1. In case you missed it, the Vikings didn't re sign Dobbs. They signed Sam Darnold, who has an excellent chance of performing above expectations with his history and with his available weapons. There is nothing desparate about our position. We are in the range where a tradeup is possible, we have the draft capital, and there at least two teams who have intimated they may be willing to trade. 2. Our options are anything but limited. We have two 1st round picks this year that can be used for picks, used to trade up, or even traded for draft capital next year. 3. Which one of the QB did you hope we would trade for last year, and at what cost going up 20 picks or so? As for picking the 4th best QB this year, by whose definition? The same people that grumbled when the VIkings drafted a certain WR in 2020 who was rated the 5th best in the draft when we got him? Predraft hype doesn't always predict a player's NFL career. When I think about it, I believe it rarely does. 4. No foresight? intrepid, please. It is KWesi's foresight that has set the Vikings up for the offesason they've had. The Texans might have initiated the #23 trade, but Kwesi is the guy who ljumped on it setting up the possible trade for a QB and allowing Cousins to walk gave the team the money to make excellent FA signings. It was Kwesi's foresight to use 2024 as the year to absorb over 47 million in dead cap while still having money for those FAs AND ensuring they will enter 2025 offseason with over 100 million in cap space even after extending JJ. I'd say that's 20/20 foresight. NO, our options don't stink, and the only ones here who believe they are, are the usual cabal of people who hated Kwesi because he wasn't Poles and KAM because he wasn't Harbaugh. Nothing, and I mean nothing, will change your minds. My history as a fan of this team goes back to its birth. I was excited to hear the Max Winter group secured the then unnamed Minnesota franchise in 1960, and this year is the most exciting offseason since those first 2 years watching the creation of an NFL team as a teenager. All we knew through the summer of 1960 was the team was going to be called either the Chippewas, Miners, Voyageurs -- or the Vikings, and everybody had their favorite. I firmly believe KAM and KOC are almost creating a rebirth of this franchise and I'm enjoying every minute of it. Well, not the constant mock drafts, no, but you get the idea.

Passing on the opportunity to draft one is always a waste. A big reason the same teams are picking at the top of the draft each year is taking QBs for their bad teams and then watching them flounder due to the lack of talent around them. Rinse...repeat. And they all thought the QB they are drafting is a franchise QB when usually they are not.

Question is, is the 4th or 5th QB in the Draft worthy of the 11th pick, what also plays into the mix is Harrison, Nabers, Alt, ODunze, DeJean, Murphy, Bowers all have an impact as well. Smart money is to stand pat and either take a chance at Penix, Nix or Rattler (Penix and maybe Nix at 11, Rattler second round with trades)
This draft is probably 8 QB's deep for borderline solid to great QB potential. The Bears are going with Williams there is very little doubt of that now. Washington and New england are after Maye/Daniels/Macarthy I am sure. Arizona do they give Murray targets, trade out for 11 and 23 or draft a QB, Chargers are in the catbird seat here with the possibility of Harrison, ODunze or trading the pick. The Giants if Penix is not worth 11 is he worth 6. Tennessee they spent a lot of draft capital on Levis and Willis the last 2 years they also brought in Mason Rudolph they need line support plain and simple. Atlanta nope, Chicago #2 my bet here is they chance on Odunze or Harrison. Jets well they have Erin and have wrecked more top prospect QB's then anybody sans the browns.
Unenviable..... I say we sit pretty good because Darnold will certainly be better then what we trotted out last year after Kirk went down. If we don't draft a QB and suck we end up in the running for the top 4 QB's in 2025, that is what half this board clammers for all the time.

The Vikings can create negotiating leverage by playing New England, Arizona and LAC against each other for the significant draft capital they have to offer. Minnesota also knows that these teams are interested (some more than others perhaps) in trading out for additional picks. And their options to do so for the quality of picks Minnesota has to offer is also very limited. That's how you negotiate.
And how are their options really limited? If there is a QB who they are all-in on who turns out to be THE guy, then 3 1sts will not matter in the long run. If it turns out they can't get that guy and don't want to settle, they draft some very high quality players at other positions or trade picks this year for additional picks next year to set themselves up to draft a QB in 2025.
Darnold has all the physical tools to be top QB and this will be the best offense he's ever had a chance to lead. He's still young and had a year under Kyle Shanahan and now gets to play for another supposed QB-whisperer in KOC. I'm not banking on it, but who knows. It's at least possible that a year from now Minnesota doesn't even need a QB.
Also, if Darnold does excel AND the Vikings spend 2-3 1sts on a rookie, what do they do next year? On one hand it would be a nice problem to have for a change. But on the other, they'd likely never recoup 3 1sts by trading one of the QBs a year or so down the line.
