It sure was not...Gives one pause no doubt. Is Daniels, Nix, JJ, Maye the new order? Probably not in many circles, but I like it.

Is Daniels, Nix, JJ, Maye the new order? Man its tough out there..Very well could be... I donβt think anyone has Penix or Nix in the top 4 other than Simms and he thought zmond was going to be really good..so I take him with a grain of salt. Doesnβt mean they wonβt be good or even better if they go to the right teamβ¦ but based on tape and scoutingβ¦.theyβll be drafted 5-6 just not sure which one goes first. All that said if you look at the top 7 (that includes Rat) the best one will likely be the one that can actually read a defense and goes to the right system, with the right supporting cast and enjoys some continuity in the system/coaching staff.

Is Daniels, Nix, JJ, Maye the new order? Man its tough out there..Very well could be... I didn't care for Nix during the year. Just wasn't interested. Watched a ton of tape when the year ended and came away really impressed with little things that added up. Watched his Senior Bowl media rounds and cringed pretty hard. It's been pretty quiet on the guy in the media since. All the QBs have gone through the media car wash except him. Seems like maybe he's finally starting to.

They all miss some when it comes to evaluating QBs.
To be fair to Simms he did like Mond but he had him ranked 4th in a QB class where nobody taken after him has outperformed him or is any good either.
Actually nobody from that entire QB class is much. Trevor Lawrence by far the best.
Others include Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, Mac Jones (who redbird had badly overrated, LOL), Justin Fields.

NFL Draft Buzz
Williams Maye Daniels Penix McCarthy Nix
If you don't think Penix is being rated top 4 by more than just Chris Simms you need to look at more draft analysis.

For me, I'm looking for a guy who is a gamer and can win games for the Vikings. Think of guys like Brady, Rodgers, Mahomes, etc.
I am not looking for the flashy player, whether that means he's running a sub 4.4 40 or throws bombs 80 yards. While those things would be nice, I'm looking for a guy who is smart, commanding, tenacious, determined, and does what it takes to win games and enjoys the challenge.
IMO, this is why it's so hard to find a QB, because they are looking for the perfect fit. Did the QB play in a pro style offense in college, is the QB a pocket passer, is the QB a scrambler first, does the QB scan through his progressions, yadda yadda yadda. Find me a winner and we can mold him into the "fit" of the team.
IMO, that one guy I am targeting is JJ McCarthy.

For me, alot of the eye test for JJM looks a heck of alot like Baker Mayfield. Scrappy, fighter, fearless....but perhaps limited ceiling due to physical traits. He would be most interesting to follow for development of the top 6 guys simply due to his lesser snaps and offense he played in at MI.

Admittedly, I didn't anticipate Mac Jones being as big of a personality problem as it appears he is. However, I still think he's a perfect example of a QB that went to a bad situation. He came in behind a legend, he's had 3 OC's and 3 different offensive schemes in 3 years, he's had zero talent around him, his OC's haven't been anything to right home about and he doesn't get along with his Head Coach. Not exactly a great recipe for success for a rookie QB. I think in a different landing spot he could have developed into a solid starter. I actually think it will be interesting to see how his career unfolds and if he gets his head screwed on straight. Will also be interesting to see if he really is an attitude problem or if it was simply frustration from the situation.

Mac Jones was an easy one to scout for me.
He has Christian Ponder Syndrome. In other words he does not have an NFL arm. That isn't going to change. He might be able to become a 'system'QB but more likely he will now be a career backup.
I do agree with you that fit, organization, etc. all play into success. It is a very valid point, IMO.

I am so tired of these mock trades who we will take, what w have to give to move up.
here are the picks of the last 10 times teams moved into top 5 picks for a qb
Bryce Young Trey lance Sam Darnold Trubisky Goff Carson Wentz RG3 Mark Sanchez Mike Vick Ryan Leaf
will we join the party
are we caught between a rock and a hard place.
would be typical Viking luck. If we do, move into the top 5 and draft a qb. To find Darnold playing like a star qb with some offensive talent around him. I donβt know much he played with SF last year.
how come do I think of keenum. Did he do anything before or after playing for the Vikings?
