great find Doug thanks, I always trust these evaluations far more than the posters that that give Darnold no chance at all of being decent. Minny with KOC will be Sam's best opportunity to be a good QB.

Seems like a very in-depth analysis; but, Jesus was that tough to watch... he spent about 5 minutes speeding up and rewinding the first play saying the same things different ways.

"Another reason the #Vikings have more than $24 million in salary cap space left: Sam Darnoldβs one-year, $10 million actually includes four void years to spread out his $6.25 million signing bonus.
His cap number for 2024 is only $5 million."

I don't think that KAM or the FO made a complaint. From my understanding it's that Kirk Cousins basically offered up info in a press conference that he had been working with the Falcons (trainers, medical and others) before they were allowed to talk to him. KOC was complaining during a presser at the combine about it. I'm pretty sure the Vikings lodged a complaint.

It was reported today on some of the blogs, but I don't know who it was originally from.

To be fair they have went with smaller amounts this year on the voids and Darnold and Jones are only real hits they have potentially added for next year and Harry actually redid his deal for both 24' & 25' without really changing his dead hit amount much in 25' if he retires. Jones and Darnold dead void hits next year will be a couple mil more then Davenports was this year. They have not backloaded cap hit like Kirk or Hunter on anyone. Also always a chance of extending guys before the voids hit.

Void years are NOT a big deal unless they are Large. Especially when you KNOW you are going to have an abundance of cap space in the coming seasons.
Almost all teams do it they just need to be careful not to overdo it IMO.
For the Vikings small void years tacked on to multiple contracts while having 120M+ salary cap room as soon as 25 makes perfect sense.
Think of them somewhat like a business borrowing money when they need to upgrade equipment or expand. I think most successful business owners would tell you that is usually a solid practice. Another thing to remember is we don't really care if Zygi is willing to spend more. We just want the team to maintain financial flexibility to manuever when opportunities arise.

Problem is when teams keep redoing contracts to create room and adding onto the voids like with Kirk and Hunter. We actually used to do pretty well front loading a few deals once upon a time when they had cap room. They have them spread out over various years right now. It eventually catches up with teams if they keep doing it. They need to let O'Neill's deal settle for a year without adjusting it or they will end up in a sticky one with him. He has a 9M higher dead cap then his salary right now, but it gets manageable after this year if they leave it alone.
