Iโm a fan of Cousins, but I would be ok not signing him, draft one of those top six quarterbacks in the first round, and let the rookie start in his first season.

Whether they are a young 21 or an older 24, I wouldn't worry much about the QB's age. We just need 1 superbowl. Go back through draft history and tell me how many successful over 22 yr old QB's have been drafted? In the modern era I just can't think of many. And there have been a number of guys that have been older. I mean Roger Staubach who was 22 and then they had to wait for his military service to be completed? In the modern day they have almost all been 20-21 drafted almost all left after 3 years of the good ones. Burrow is the modern exception? I also think teams at times shy away from older prospects at QB because they feel it is easier to teach and coach up a younger prospect. We will see and McCarthy could choose to go back one more year and set himself up as #1 next year. That is kind of the thing they have a chance maybe to draft what would project as the 25' #1 QB this year at a lower spot. I could be very wrong, but once the process plays out I expect McCarthy will go #3 of the QB's.

I think there are 6 guys that could be Day 1 starters. 1. Williams 2. Daniels 3. Maye 4. Pennix 5. Nix 6. McCarthy The consensus Top 2 varies among scouts. Williams is usually the #1 of the 2 in the variations. ...some will knock Williams and say he didn't have a phenomenal season this year. People were lining up for the #1 pick to take him last year.. Daniels or Maye would be the 2. Daniels looks to be a star and Maye looks like a prototype passer. Either could be #1 on boards. Pennix' has a monster NFL arm and accuracy too. His "knocks" are his line blocked too good and injuries. He looks like an NFL player in every way and like a Day 1 starter if he stays healthy. Nix has really great mechanics and timing with his throws and he is very natural at moving in the pocket with his eyes down field. He has a Dobbs like ability to escape but Nix is natural at getting his eyes up as fast as he breaks the pocket. I think he's an underrated Day 1 starter. I hate to use a Brady comparison, but his college tape reminds me of it. The little things play to play look great and the great plays look "college easy" routine. You turn the tape off wondering why he is written off. LOL the question is if Maye or Williams is the top not if Daniels is above Maye. Maye is a more refined Josh Allen (doesn't mean he can't bust) with the arm, the big body, and actually runs faster then Allen.

I think any young QB that has a chance to sit and learn for at least 1 season, if not more has a better chance than one that is thrown to the wolves. The Packer (wash my mouth out with soap) format of letting their future learn on the bench has proven to be very valuable to the success of their QB's...

And as ? of note are brought up good here by 'Roo, how 'bout the left-handed Penix? How many successful lefties have been great? Steve Young, Boomer E, ....eh, ok, I am a lefty - but I digress!!!
You pretty much have to retool the OL for blind side protections the other way.

Having a QB that has significant time to learn the playbook forwards and backwards before being thrown into the fire has a lot of merit.

Cousins would be great for this, from all indicators, he's a great teammate. But they have to win, can you hear the masses talk about him as a bust if he didn't start right away. Calling for the GMs job because the fan doesn't get instant satisfaction. I would hope KOC and the Wilfs are smart enough to dround out the ignorant as they truly developed a new QB the right way...

Nix and McCarthy do a lot of WR screens and throws behind the line of scrimmage so if you draft either of those guys you would probably want to sit them for a year. The other four I would start right away.

Take a looks at the Texans blueprint with Stroud, Anderson and a few other pieces.
If the Vikes can nail a QB that can be the long term answer and fill the defense in free agency with money that is not used in re-signing Cousins, the turnaround could be quick.
Sign Cousins, draft a QB and the defense will be a sieve. Teams have already figured out how to scheme around Floresโ defense because his unit lacks playmakers. Once Hunter walks, we will be at the bottom of the league.
The Vikings cannot win without at least a middle of the pack defense.
As much as Iโve always been opposed to having Kirk on this team, itโs clear that he would be a great bridge for a new QB. I believe the salary cap will prevent that from happening.

Lot of throws underneath and downfield to the TE's and a lot of throws to the WR's outside the hashes.
