Brett Kollmann: "I don't think people realize how hard the Vikings tried to trade up for Anthony Richardson last year. Like, the haul that they put on the table was massive. They were going to give away the entire farm, all of it. They were going to give everything." "But, it takes two to tango. Their trade partner thought that they were going to be too good, and so they went elsewhere." Take it what itโs worthโฆ "But, it takes two to tango. Their trade partner thought that they were going to be too good, and so they went elsewhere." What does this mean? It means that future draft picks were part of the package and the potential trade partner thought that the Vikes may be good in the future so the picks would be lower in value as opposed to another trade partner.

80% of the votes going to see who falls to us, is it any wonder the Wilfs strive for mediocrity? Yes because the only way to win is to trade a bunch of picks and your best players for a crap shoot

Can you provide a source for this quote? It doesn't make a lot of sense that the Vikings were willing to trade away "the whole farm" and their anonymous "trade partner" would quibble about draft order. EDIT:Never mind I found it. There doesn't appear to be any reason to think this guy knows anything.

How is any new contract going to โchew upโ already paid (void year) money? Plus, we don't have a 3rd round pick this year, as on yet.

80% of the votes going to see who falls to us, is it any wonder the Wilfs strive for mediocrity? Yes because the only way to win is to trade a bunch of picks and your best players for a crap shoot I will be the first to admit that this wasn't a well thought out poll. What it does show is there isn't a consensus of fans who feel there is only 2 studs worthy of moving up to get. I don't follow college ball, but I know how teams desperate for a QB will throw their chips on the table to get one. Hopefully KOC digs as deep as he can to find that player he wants tied to his hip for the next 10 years. We have watched this team play the 1 season at a time long enough, that happens when the management at the top is scared to develop a 10 year plan, take the preverbal 1 step back to take 2 steps forward. If he is 100% convinced that there is one of only 2 players in this draft that can do that, then all bets are off the table and he should do what ever it takes to acquire that kid. I actually hope he believes it's one of the other kids, but don't play it too cute and drop down and miss him...

But he's just trying to generate traffic, the article is full of words like hunch and insinuate. Typical weasel language.

Looking into this claim by Brett Kollman more thoroughly, The idea that the Vikings were offering "The farm, the cat, everything" to move up to the 3rd pick and were turned away because of potential draft position seems pretty ridiculous when the deal the Cardinals made with the Texans was that the Texans would get the 3rd overall pick and a bottom of the 3rd round pick in exchange for the 12th and 33rd pick and next years first and third rounders. The entire farm should be worth more than that.
The Texans received the No. 3 and No. 105 picks in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Arizona acquired the No. 12 and No. 33 selections in 2023, plus a 2024 first-round pick and 2024 third-round pick.

I think there are 6 guys that could be Day 1 starters.
1. Williams 2. Daniels 3. Maye 4. Pennix 5. Nix 6. McCarthy
The consensus Top 2 varies among scouts. Williams is usually the #1 of the 2 in the variations. ...some will knock Williams and say he didn't have a phenomenal season this year. People were lining up for the #1 pick to take him last year..
Daniels or Maye would be the 2. Daniels looks to be a star and Maye looks like a prototype passer. Either could be #1 on boards.
Pennix' has a monster NFL arm and accuracy too. His "knocks" are his line blocked too good and injuries. He looks like an NFL player in every way and like a Day 1 starter if he stays healthy.
Nix has really great mechanics and timing with his throws and he is very natural at moving in the pocket with his eyes down field. He has a Dobbs like ability to escape but Nix is natural at getting his eyes up as fast as he breaks the pocket. I think he's an underrated Day 1 starter. I hate to use a Brady comparison, but his college tape reminds me of it. The little things play to play look great and the great plays look "college easy" routine. You turn the tape off wondering why he is written off.

IOW, if Kwesi and KOC somehow screw up getting a solid starting-level QB this spring, it's a major screw-up.

Just to add more context, if Daniels, Nix or Penix are taken - they have plenty of snaps and are older prospects. Those three are not ones you would sit behind Kirk or a Russel Wilson season 1. JJ, Williams, and Maye are also ready to start, but at least they are not advanced ages as this era of Transfer Portal plus a Covid year have created with the latest draft crop.

Whether they are a young 21 or an older 24, I wouldn't worry much about the QB's age. We just need 1 superbowl.

This is the part people keep missing is McCarthy is playing at this level younger then anyone else on this list except Maye actually had a better season last year at around the same age. They keep forgetting that When Nix and Penix (and I like Penix) were McCarthy's age they looked like they might be lost causes and neither was in a position to be drafted after their 3rd year.
