The Vikings won Day 1 of the draft. Any reasonable person would agree Too bad they did it by giving away days 2 and 3 for the next 2 years. EDIT: BTW, the Bears won the first day of the draft handily.

Patiently awaiting your point-by-point rebuttal. If I call this guy a dipshit does that negate his point? Still patiently waiting...

Possible franchise QB and DE... not sure what more you can ask from a GM that had the 11th overall pick.

Too bad they did it by giving away days 2 and 3 for the next 2 years. There should be some free agents available. Iβm happy they still have their first round pick

There should be some free agents available. Iβm happy they still have their first round pickΒ Free agents are way more valuable than day 2 and 3 picks anyways. Not necessarily. FA are have an higher hit rate and are more expensive yes, upside to become franchise cornerstonesβ¦way less likely. FA are free agents for a reason. FA either canβt play to their cost, are older and on the decline, canβt stay healthy, have limitations to their game and havenβt lived up to expectations. Once in awhile you get a true cap casualty or a player who comes into their own after the factβ¦ but they are few and far between. 25 year old perennial pro bowler donβt walk out of the building unless the scheme no longer fits or they are a head case/cancer. Those types of players are usually traded not let go via FA. Which is why Iβve been a proponent all along that itβs great to Have cap space to work with so you can pinpoint and bid what is needed to land the best candidates to fill a few holes , but you donβt build your team that way. 90% of the time you are over as young for what you get because you are desperate.

I don't think anybody, at least in the context of this conversation, is suggesting a strategy of building the team through FA. In this case, FA is just a 1-year alternative to replace 2-3 draft picks that the Vikings won't have in 2025 (as it currently stands). After that, it's back to business as usual. I have no worries whatsoever about Turner exceling in the NFL. If JJ lives up to his potential, the draft capital given up to get these two players will look minor in comparison a couple of years down the road.

Daniel Snyder tried building a short term winner years back by signing as many big names as he could at the time. It was an epic fail.

I have heard that teams consider a solid draft one where you come out with 3 legit starters and you need to hit on at least 2. Getting the most out of your draft capital is pivotal in building a team and sometimes that means using multiple picks to fill premium positions, I would give up as much as I had to for a franchise QB, which they were prepared to do and when they didn't need to do that, I think they felt that gave them the capital to move up for another premium position and enhance their chances of coming out of the draft with at least two key areas filled, which would be huge. Jackson in the 4th has the tools be a starter and we also got a kicker which we really needed. If JJM and Turner become anything like Cousins and Hunter, this will go down as one of our best drafts.

EDIT: BTW, the Bears won the first day of the draft handily. They still managed to have good draft. They'll be fine next year too. I know that's the last thing you wanted to hear Bears won the first day handily? Very close . I think McCarthy is close enough to Williams and elite pass rusher trumps elite wr. I'm also thinking Turner will be the bane of your Packer fandom existence. He'll be that good
