However, once we're in playoffs we should really only need Maeda, Pineda, Berrios, and Hill as starters.

For $20 million, I thought Donaldson would be a much better contact hitter. Jeffers and Rooker are just as productive at league minimum.

Randy Dobnak (6-4) has been sent to St. Paul camp to make room for Jake Odorizzi. But Dobnak has an 8.27 ERA in his last four starts. Also, Alex Avila is activated and Travis Blankenhorn optioned back to St. Paul.

Odorizzi going for the Twins tonight. Need to take these last 2 from WS. So far he's looked good (and frankly I'm really surprised he's back at all after the wicked liner he took to the rib cage). Gave up 2 deep FO in the bottom of the 3rd but his splitter looks to be in mid-season form (last year).
Twins up 1-0 on a solo HR by Rosario in the 2nd.

Buxton launched a 2 run HR to straight away C.
Twins up 3-0 still top of the 4th.

Odorizzi done for the night. Gave up a lead off HR to Abreu in the bottom of the 4th and managed to get 2 outs but the real reason he came out was because he had a blister on 1 of his fingers.
Stashak in and inherited a hitter with a 2-1 count but fanned him to end the inning.
3-1 Twins after 4.

Good gravy. Jake with another injury. I guess since you're the site administrator and have privileges, your post was later than my last one but above mine re: Odoizzi.
With all due respect, Proud, STOP POSTING in game threads when the game is still on! You're JINXING the Twins who had Cruz on 3rd but failed to plate the run in a tight 3-1 game!

Stashak with another 1,2, 3 inning. 2 1/2 with 2K's, no BB nor hits. Looked very good tonight with good command of all his pitches.
My "binky", Duffey, was up in the pen so he'll take over in the 7th but I wouldn't mind seeing Stashak getting another inning the way he's pitched.

Sano bombed a 2 run HR to near dead center and farther than Buxton's.
Twins now up 5-1 with 1 out remaining in the top of the 8th. Extra breathing room is huge especially with the way Rogers has been pitching lately. Maybe a combo of Romo and May can close this game out since most of the Sox big guns are righties.

Duffey getting a 2nd inning for change. I've been banging the table since last year for him to be given more opportunities to pitch late in the game and more than 1 measly inning (only took 10 pitches to retire the side). His FB isn't as good as usual (93-94) but his slider and curve have a lot of bite.
In the meantime, the Twins have...
wait for it...
wait for it some more...
wait while humming the Jeopardy show tune...
May and Romo up in the pen just like I predicted. No sign of Rogers.

Duffey did his job. Retired the Sox in order on 15 pitches logging his 2nd SO.
I'd prefer Romo over May for the 9th. May's FB and the fact its straight as a string with no movement, with average to mediocre breaking stuff, scares me more than Grandpa Fidel Castro with his 70-80 mph sliders that make MLB hitters look foolish chasing his slider out of the zone.

Marwin leading off the 9th almost jacked a HR to near dead center (just below the bright yellow line) that the CF stayed with and made the nice catch near the top of the wall.
Sox down to their final 3 outs.

May struck out the side but, man, he's frustrating to watch. He has excellent velocity (tonight 97-98) but when tries to put a little "extra juice" on it, his mechanics completely fall apart, his pitches sail high out of the zone even over the C's head and yet he still clocks in at 97-98. His "breaking stuff" (baby curve and CU) are merely in between pitches to get to strike 3 with his FB.
As I've said before, May is basically a 1 trick pony. Most of the time he's effective but occasionally, as has already happened 2x this year, he gets lit up giving up HR's bc hitters know what to expect.
5-1 final. Twins really need to win tomorrow to keep the pressure on the Sox as they'll be a 7 game road trip (including 4 in Cleveland) and anything can happen. The higher seed the Twins can get the better (as long as they don't draw the Yank's in the 1st round).
