Supposedly Odorizzi will start the Sat game. Prob on a pitch count of about 70.

Smeltzer gets the start tonight. Hopefully pitches well and can go 5 innings. BP games by committee can really tax a BP that has pitched extremely well so far but can wear them out.

Smeltzer walked the lead off batter but caught the runner leaning who was eventually tagged out in a run down. He has a very deceptive delivery and IIRC this is the 2nd runner he's picked off this early in the season. Retired the next 2 batters although both hit the ball hard.

Smeltzer struggling with his control (especially his curve) getting behind the hitters in the count but retired the side. Most of the outs have been of the pop up or high fly balls. Remains to be seen what they do the 2nd time they come up.

Buxton leads off the 3rd with a lead off HR off a hanging slider. Polanco got on but was left stranded.
Sano with a 2nd towering fly ball that he just got under. Watching a Royals feed and they flashed a graphic that going into tonight, Sano has a .339 BA, 13 HR's and 45 RBI's in 33 games against them. He looks more comfortable at the plate and had 2 good swings. If he get the barrel of the bat a little more square, looking for a HR from him later this game.
1-0.

Royals respond scoring after a double, runner moved over to 3rd on a sac bunt, Baldeli had the infield in and the Royals' hitter poked a single by SS for a single to drive in the run. If the infield had been at regular depth, that would have been hit right to Polanco for an easy out. Last hitter skied a fly ball to center for the last out so that was a costly managerial error.
1-1 after 3.

Marwin launched a HR to dead center on a change up over the plate in the top of the 4th. He's been doing a great job this year.
Twins up 2-1.

Smeltzer now getting his curve over for strikes but mainly relying on a change up because his FB has no juice on it whatsoever (87-88 tops).

Twins having something going in the 5th. 2 runners on with 2 out resulting in a pitching change but Rosario rolls out to 1st.
Still 2-1. If Smeltzer can get 3 quick outs, he could go 6 (pitch count only 48) but I'd bring in the relievers to close the game out.

Royals tie the score on a solid but not screaming hot single right up the box that went through Smeltzer's legs with a runner on 2nd. Now there's a rain delay. No telling how long it's going to be.
Turned out to be only a 10 min delay, Wisler came in to get the final 2 outs (2 long FO, 1 that Cave had to make the catch over the wall). It was raining even harder in the top of the 6th and the Twins went down in order but the rain gods turned off the spigot while the Royals were up and the 2nd hitter launches a HR to RC. Wisler slider has little to no break tonight and been hanging them up in the zone. <smh>
3-2 after 6.

Royals' reliever Slaumont can really bring it. 98, then 99 and just blew the ball by 2 Twins at 101 mph. Turned his ankle slightly on his follow through on the last out. Walked Kepler on a high FB just out of the zone. Royals' manager pulls him in favor of a breaking ball reliever who gets the final out.

New Twins pitcher (Poppin) has a good FB (94 mph), really nasty slider but his pitch location is not the best. Allowed 2 hits including a double to left that Cave cut off and saved a run. Got out of the inning on a routine ground out.
Twins down to their last 3 outs.

Royals' closer (Rosenthal) can bring it 98-100 as well with pinpoint control. Retired the Twins in order. 2 SO's, 1 that Garver didn't agree with (looked just outside). Didn't argue with the plate ump but stayed in the batter's box for quite a quite awhile. Now only 1 hit in 21 AB's against righties. Cruz (in to PH for Adrianza) at least fouled off some pitches before SO swinging.
On to the next game.

Tuned in a little late to see Buxton line out to 3rd with 2 on.
Odoizzi gave up 1 run in the top of the first. More importantly, pitch count was 29 with only a little over 1/2 for strikes (16).
