Watched Odorizzi in the 2nd. Struggling with the command of his pitches (high) and many left out over the plate. Threw 1 FB (92 mph), his cutter (high 80's) or slider. "Only" needed 16 pitches but he's up to 45 with only 25 strikes after 2. He likely won't go more than 4 innings if that.

Odorizzi gives up a solo HR. Royals up 2-0. Pitch count up to 71. He's probably done for the night.

Cruz gets 1 back with a deep shot (HR) to L to lead off leading off the 4th. Sano followed with a towering pop up (too much of an uppercut but he had it timed), Rosario hit a deep ball to the warning track in C (deepest part of the park), Marwin nailed a hot liner up the middle for a single, Arraez drew a walk after falling behind in the count and then Buxton nailed a 3 run HR to L that was about as far as Cruz' HR. In spite of a mound visit after the walk to Arraez by the Royals' pitching coach, he stupidly left Duffy (Royals' starter) in and still let him pitch to get the final out.
Twin 4-2 after 4.

Thorpe sucks. Gave up a hard single to L to the lead off hitter (previous pitch hit would have been a double but hooked foul) then follows with a meatball right down the middle to the next hitter who drills a 2 run HR to right. Next hitter lays down a bunt so 3 hits in only 6 pitches.
Stashak barely had time to start warming up but Baldeli acted quickly pulling Thorpe.

Stashak obviously not sharp w/o getting time to warm up. Walks a batter, followed by hit, Soler hit his 2nd HR (3 run shot) followed by another solo HR. 8-4 before Stashak finally, mercifully, got an out. Settled down, made good pitches and got 2 out of the next 3 hitters out but the damage was already done.

Stashak sucks just as bad. Send both these bums outta here To be fair, Stashak threw only 2-3 pitches at most in the BP before he was called in because Thorpe sucked so bad that Baldeli didn't let him pitch to another batter to give Stashak time to properly warm up. That's on Baldeli.

Alcala comes in for the bottom of the 5th. Despite having a full warm up in the pen, he fell behind the 1st hitter 3-0 but came back to record a SO throwing 99 mph heat. Fell behind the 2nd batter but struck him out on a pitch in the dirt that was nowhere close to a strike. That's how much respect opponents have for his FB. SO the last hitter as well on a 99 mph FB.

The nightmare continues. After a BB to Rosario, Marwin just took an inside slider on the side of his back knee. Took the trainer at least 30 secs to get out there while Marwin just stood in the box bent at the waist in severe pain. Stayed in the game showing he's a real trooper. Arraez drew a walk loading them up and Buxton followed with a sharp single driving 1 but Adrianza grounded into an inning ending DP.
8-5 Royals.

Alcala retires the side in order. Not only does he have a 99-100 mph FB, he has a good slider with late movement on it that clocks in at 90-92. He doesn't always spot it well but he will in time and if he develops a 3rd pitch, the sky's the limit for him. That's how much talent he has.

Kepler, after fouling off 6-7 pitches, hit a line shot HR to right. 8-6 now. Twins trying to get back in it.

Mondesi did all the work scoring a run after leading off with an infield single, stole 2nd, then 3rd and came home on a WP by Poppin who replaced Alcala for the 8th.
9-6 Royals.

Marwin blooped a single to C after 1 out (3-3 tonight). Had a noticeable limp trotting down the line. Arraez lined out to deep C. Even though 2 outs, the Royals' skipper decides to go to the pen for his closer to face Buxton who's been red hot of late (3 HR's in his last 3 games) and has hit the ball hard every AB tonight. Rosenthal has a 100 mph FB with an outstanding slider and got Buxton looking on 2 borderline pitches.

Garver is struggling not only at the plate but behind the plate. Just tries backhanding sliders in the dirt instead of shifting his body to square up behind the ball. Cost the Twins a run last inning and now 2 in scoring position after doing it again as Poppin is starting to short arm both his FB and slider. Fortunately, got a SO to end the inning.
Poppin has good stuff (94-95 mph FB with nice movement on his slider) but seems to fold under pressure. He's the type of guy you want to be the 1st guy up in the pen if a starter goes 5 innings with a lead, not pitching the 7th and 8th.
