Was 5-1 Twins but Berrios gave up a 3-run homer that knotted the score. Twins got 2 more in the 4th on a nice piece of hitting by Polanco (change up at his ankles) to single with the bases loaded.
7-5 Twins after 4.
Really bizarre watching the game with cardboard cut outs of people in the stands.

Twins add 3 top of the 7th to make it 10-5. Arraez with a key 2 out single to right to drive in 2.
May ok in his 1 inning after Berrios went 4. Mechanics just go to hell when he overthrows his fastball.
Clippard followed and showed good command of several different pitches with good location.
Duffy in for the 7th. Gave up a single to Mocanda, who's supplied all of the Sox offense tonight but left him stranded.
Displayed an excellent slider and good location on all of his pitches fanning 2.

Stashak did his job holding the Sox at bay. Showed an improved slider (said to be working on getting a better spin rate) to record 2 quick SO's. Gave up a 2 out double on a high fastball (stuff still average at 92 mph). Good set up guy but not the one I'd want on the mound before giving the ball to Rogers to close out the game.
Twins bullpen: 4 pitchers, 0 runs.
Sox bullpen: 6 pitchers, 5 runs and another new one for the top of the ninth.

No save opportunity so Sashak pitched the ninth and set the Sox down in order.
Final: Twins 10-5 .

Tuned in late (just like last night). Dobnak was locked in a pitchers' duel with Keuchel thru the 1st 4 (1-0 Sox). Zittel came in at the top of the 5th, promptly gave up 2 homers, several other hard hit balls that were absolutely crushed and the Twins are now down 5 zip.

Sox manager very proactive going to the pen just like last night when he brought in 7 relievers (even righty v. lefty matchups when the Twins were up by 5 runs). Twins have runners at the corners with 1 out and Renteria yanked Keuchel.
Cruz ruined that strategy and drilled a 3 run HR. Twins back in it. 5-3.

Schmeltzer came in for the 6th and pitched well but gave up an opposite field solo HR that barely made it over the yellow line. However, the Sox teed off on him the next inning adding 4 more so his stat line (5k's out pf the 6 batters he retired) is deceiving.
10-3 Sox.

1st look at Wisler. Short-arms the ball and virtually every pitch was a slider, virtually all at the same speed (82 mph) making it easy for the hitters to at least time the speed of the pitch). Hung a few he got away with but when he starts the ball low in the zone and ends up down in the dirt can be effective. Saw him throw 2 fastballs (topped out at 88 mph) and 1 change up that was in the high 60's so he's basically a 1 trick pony relying almost exclusively on an inconsistent slider.

Grand slam by Cave (opposite field just barely over the fence). Sox starter (Garcia) having control probs (walked 2) and both Kepler and Cruz hit him hard down the line--Kepler out on a nice stab by the Sox 1st baseman, while Cruz doubled down the 3rd base line. Arraez followed with a single and now Marwin made Garcia work to a 3-2 count before Garcia feigned an injury (pitch count already 39 and clearly frustrated on the mound because he has virtually no command of any of his pitches) so the Sox already forced to go to the pen in the top of the 1st. Unfortunately, Marwin SO swinging on the first pitch after switching from L to R.
Twins 4-0.

Maeda set the Sox down in order. Couple of observations (seeing him pitch for the 1st time other than replays).
Reminds me of Brad Radke. Has a decent FB (clocked mostly at 91 but 1 got to 93) which he used 1st pitch to every batter just for show. Then he goes to work using off speed stuff. Slider has good (not great) movement and his straight change hung high over the heart of the plate but the Sox hitter swung through it for a SO.
Has good, consistent mechanics and, as is common of pitchers from Japan, he has a "hitch" (pauses after raising his leg before following through with his arm) in his delivery. Makes it difficult for hitters to time him.

Twins tacked on another 5 in the 2nd. Reliever who struck out Marwin to end the 1st getting like hit like a red headed step child.
9-0
