Twins tacked on another 5 in the 2nd. Reliever who struck out Marwin to end the 1st getting like hit like a red headed step child.
9-0
I am glad we'll be 2-1 but man we had to watch 3 games with some brutal pitching on both sides.

To start the 2nd, Maeda changing things up. Started with off speed pitches, then went to his FB (which clocked at 94) and recorded back-back K's. Not a straight as a string FB (like May) but it has a little late movement on it.

I am glad we'll be 2-1 but man we had to watch 3 games with some brutal pitching on both sides. To be fair, Proud, Berrios wasn't as bad as his stat line (gave up a 3 run HR on a slider that hung a bit) and the pen worked 5 perfect innings. Dobnak wasn't bad either (1 run in 4 innings) but the pen was atrocious yesterday (particularly Littel). Maeda has looked very good thus far (just racked up his 4k and only allowed 1 hit) although I personally wouldn't have made the trade giving up Graterol for him. Graterol has super-star potential.

Cruz just crushed a HR (3-3 for the day with 2 doubles) to lead off the 4th.
Nothing else so 10 zip which ties a MLB record for consecutive games in a series where 1 or both of the teams score 10 runs in a game. Did not know that.

Sox get 2 back in the 5th on a HR to dead center off a slider that Maeda hung over the heart of the plate. His slider hasn't been as good as advertised (more sweeping type than breaking down) but he's added 2 mph to his FB again clocking at 94 mph. Pitch count hit 84 as the last out alone took 15 pitches so he's done for the day.
10-2 Twins

Thorpe 1st up in relief of Maeda. Uneventful 2 innings although he did issue a walk in both. Basically a FB pitcher (tops out at 91 mph) who spots his pitches.

Cruz with his 2nd HR, 3 run job. 4-5 with 2 HR's, 2 doubles and 7 RBI's. One man wrecking crew.
13-2 Twins.

Twins trot out Thorpe for a 3rd inning. Guess the rest of the bullpen needs a rest.
Gets the 1st 2 outs but a hard come backer up the middle hits Thorpe in the leg forcing him out of the game so Wisler gets the nod to get the final out of the 8th and closes out the win in the ninth.

A few impressions regarding the weekend series with the Sox.
Donaldson is pressing and swinging at pitches that are way out of the zone. When he does make contact, it's usually on off speed stuff and he's been hitting a lot of pop ups with his uppercut style of hitting. I also think that he's not used to being in the #2 slot where you need someone to move the lead off batter along if on base creating better scoring opportunities for the heart of the order. I'd move him back to #6 if Baldelli wants to maintain a RH hitter followed by a LH lineup.
1. Kepler (L)
2. Garver (most consistent hitter last year) (R)
3. Polanco or Rosario (L/Switch hitter)
4. Cruz (R)
5) Polanco or Rosario (L/Switch hitter)
6. Donaldson (R)
7. Arraez (would have him at #2 but for his lack of speed, otherwise he'd be he perfect set up man) (L)
8. Sano (2nd clean up hitter in the line up) (R)
9. Cave/Marwin (until Buxton comes back) (L)
Starting pitching was actually a little better better than I expected. Berrios was a bit ruffed up but did his job (4 innings and kept the Twins in the ball game in spite of the 3 run dinger which was the only big blow against him). Dobnak had base runners on via hits and walks but worked out of jams and only allowed 1 run in his 4 inning stint. Maeda had better velocity than advertised and kept hitters off balance switching between throwing predominately FB's to off-speed pitches and vice versa. Had a fine 6 innings of work.
The Twins need Odorizzi come back to hold down the #2 slot, see what Homer Bailey can do along with Hill who was a late scratch forcing Dobnak to step up. Pineda will also be in the mix (e looked quite good the latter half of last year) once he serves his 36 game suspension (now down to 33).
The bullpen is loaded....with too many arms. May, Duffey, Clippard, Romo are more than enough to set up Rogers. Stashak, Dobnak and Smetlzer are all good long relievers who can fill in if 1 of the main starters goes down. Use Littel, Wisler and Thorpe as little as possible (blow outs) as w/o the expanded roster they should be at AAA or outrighted for release.

Personally I dont like the lineup the way it is. The power bats should be 3,4,5.
1. Kepler 2. Polanco 3. Donaldson 4. Cruz 5. Sano 6. Garver 7. Rosario 8. Arraez 9. Cave/Buxton
That's what it should be IMO
