Darnold or new draft pick.
Do we give them a few years to develop or if they look shaky in training camp F'k them?

Hopefully, less than the eight years that Zimmer was given.

I expect the rookie to take over from Darnold at some point t in 2024 so we should know by the end of 2025 whether KAM and KOC have found the right guy.

I voted 2 years, but the Wilfs are very patient. The contracts are up at the end of 2025 league year. So they would need an extension to get beyond year two.

Self-imposed 1 yr contract to Darnold makes that choice easy.
If the anomaly of JJ gone happens, this will put some delay into this.

Rookie QB is likely to sit majority of year 1. Needs to show significant promise by end of year 2 or year 3 will be a battle to stay ahead of the new rookie QB.

I voted 1 but hold up...
I say KAM and KOC deserve more than that, especially if they are proactive at the position. If they draft a QB now and have the balls to honestly admit later on that they don't like what they see then that's a positive to me.
I'd prioritize this new QB proving that we don't need to do this again next offseason. That's really why I chose 1.

Interesting. I have heard many times on this board that the Packers do a Great job of developing QBs..
Rodgers got 3 years to learn the system while sitting bench behind Favre.
Love sat 2 years to learn behind Rodgers.
Be interesting to see if Viking fans can show some patience with a young QB.

CJ Stroud blew the doors off last year. Hope that didn't set expectations too high because that is not the norm.
I keep hearing Bryce Young is a bust. I was never a fan but that seems a little premature.

The Redskins packaged some picks and moved up to take him. He sat the entire year behind Mark Brunell. A few years later he ended up in Oakland. Not many QBs get the chance to sit a year. Not many teams keep swinging once they select one either. There are some nice cherries in that group: Cousins, Purdy, Kyler Murray. My gut is the QB has to play himself into a long term role one way or another; camp watchers gushing about his play or some promising pre-season tape... I'd want that proof in year 1 or else I'm not hesitating to take a BPA who's labeled as a "Franchise QB" next year.

(sorry, not intending to spam the thread)
It certainly depends on who we select.
Pennix? Maybe we want him to heal up. We expect him to be an accurate passer. He looked very mobile at Indiana.
McCarthy, Maye, Nix, and Daniels are expected to be great to good. They will be up against proving it immediately with every rep they take before preseason begins. We'll know where to plot them when football starts and we'll see their trajectory as a player.
JJ and Maye are both young enough that even if they aren't the best now they have the physical tools and the tape to be there. We'll know if they are worth the time or not by the end of year 1.

How many teams have had back to back HOF QBs for 30 years? Weβre not going to let a rookie sit for 3 years while Darnold or some other retread wins 5 games a year. My guess is that Darnold will continue to be Darnold and weβll be like 3-5 by mid year and the rookie will get the 2ndH of the year to get his feet wet.

Hopefully, less than the eight years that Zimmer was given. So you do not want them to win? We should want them here at least another decade which would mean that they won the big dance... So many responses here seem short sighted. No way we know what kind of QB we aquire by the end of the '24 season. KAM and KOC will be judged on the whole of their work, not by a single pick, although this years QB aquisition and or failure to get their guy will weigh on their futures heavily.

He gets one preseason possession. If he can't lead the team to a TD against a vanilla defense then we better create another Daunte forum, cuz man that dude is trash.
