Been thinking about this more and more. If the asking price is high and demand for QB so strongβ¦ if 6 QBβs are going to go in Rd1 and early to bootβ¦ that means there is going to be top 15 talent still on the board in the early 20βs. Why not trade back from 11 to somewhere in the Mid Teens, go Def or OL with 1st 2 picks and use the 2nd you get for trading back to take Rattler. You might have to throw in a 3rd or 4th to move up but probably not if 6 QBβs are already off the board.
The knock on the kid from everything I read is that heβs only 6β. But heβs probably got the 2nd or 3rd most arm talent of all the QBs in the draft. Heβs a pocket passer, heβs got good pocket movement and presence, heβs used to operating under pressure and heβs got the aggressive nature everyone here has been clamoring for. The 2 knocks on the guy are his Ht and Aggressivenessβ¦ and if thatβs the worst of this kids game, Iβd be more than happy to spend a 2nd on the guy while selecting 2 Studs in Rd1 and if it doesnβt pan out you can go QB in Rd 1 next year when the competition isnβt near as high. I see the overriding demand for QB this year creating huge opportunities for non top 10 teams to get top 10 talent without having to trade up to get it. And if Rattler can be had in Rd. 2β¦.Im not so sure he wonβt end up being the 3rd best QB in this draft anyway if he goes to the right team (of which we are a pretty good fit).

I really donβt want the Vikings to give up both their first round picks AND next yearβs first round pick to move up. I donβt know anything about Rattler. Is he better than Darnold and developing Hall?

Is he better than Darnold and developing Hall?Β I donβt know that any QB in this draft is better than Darnald, but thatβs precisely why I donβt want to pay a Kings ransom for one. What I can tell you is the guy is heady, can make every throw, has a cannon for an arm and unlike some of the other QBβs in this draft has more than one speed and trajectory on the ball. And of all the top QBβs played behind the worst OL.

You know, Rattler sounds very similar to the guy we already have, Jaren Hall, except Hall is a lot faster.

Rattler is on everyones radar but teams have to try and guage if he can find NFL success. He does have a good arm. I wouldn't call it best of the prospects by any means but it certainly looks like he has an NFL arm.
Short with average athleticism and and a tendency to scramble. That will not play in the NFL so he will have to adapt to find success and it may take time.
Kind of a Baker Mayfield type player in a lot of ways. I don't like short QBs who have trouble finding passing lanes so it would be a Major question mark to me.

Rattler measured 6001 at the Combine, so his height concerns me. He has some very good throwing skills, but I just can't see Kwesi waiting until the late 2nd round or somewhere in the 3rd to draft a QB.

Settling for crap is what this franchise as done when drafting QB's for 20 years. They have never drafted a QB in the top 10 let alone the top 5 in their existence. You know how ridiculous that is? This year is the year to trade up at get your QB. Don't worry about the picks. They have a ton of cap space next year to fill holes.

Let's trade back now to get a 2nd after trading up and spending two 2nds, and let's add a 3rd and a 4th just to make us look even dumber. Then let's spend that largess on the 5th or 6th best QB as rated by just about everyone in the NFL world. You know red, occasionally you have a great blind squirrel act and come up with a very good nut of an idea. This one's just a piece of bunny poop that you think feels like a nut. Without trying to rehash the entire post, why do you think next year's competition for a QB won't nearly be as high when there will be just as many teams drafting 1-5 as there always is, there will be just as many old QBs retiring or being released, just as many rookies playing out their contractsd because they failed, and just as many this year rooks who didn't make it. None of these things ever change. The only difference in this year is the number of excellent QB prospects available. The only ones I've heard about for next year is Lewis and Sanders. IMO the competition next year will be much more intense, not less.

Rattler is the kind of QB we could consider if we had kept Cousins for two more years. Unfortunately, now we need someone a bit more further along in development.
If Rattler didn't get it together in college, the odds are against him (not impossible though) for him to put it all together in the NFL.
That said, we could pull the Washington strategy when they took RJ3 first and Cousins later.... if Rattler is hanging around in the say the 4th, we pick him up too.

I think Viking fans are the biggest chicken little fans in the league. Iβm so afraid to trade multiple ones for one of the top 4 QBs. Iβd rather go with Sam Darnold who has sucked in the NFL for 6 years. I would rather draft this years Kellen Mond and hope that he doesnβt suck. WTF is a Rattler? Yeah letβs hoard those #1 picks because the Vikings never miss on a first rounder. Wait, I have Treadwell, Bradbury, Gladney, Hughes and Cine and the other line. Good Lord ladies, grow some balls and letβs go for it this year.

The fact that we have broken free from the salaries of Cousins after this year means that the draft pick next year, while important is less so. We will have salary cap space to use to fill the space that the Number 1 pick next year would create. It is time to take a chance on a QB this year.

Rattler was the MVP of the Senior Bowl last season, so that is a big selling point on his rΓ©sumΓ©. So was Christian Ponder. Hard pass for me on Rattler.

Rattler was the MVP of the Senior Bowl last season, so that is a big selling point on his rΓ©sumΓ©. So was Christian Ponder. Hard pass for me on Rattler. The only similarities I really see are narratively. "2nd round pick" "moving up the draft" "Senior Bowl MVP." The obvious contrast I see is the adversity each faced as players. If Ponder faced the kind of adversity Rattler had faced in college at FSU he probably would have had less of an NFL career and more of a Chris Wienke sports card collection. Ponder lacked confidence and an appetite to fail. Rattler by all mean "failed" at Oklahoma (lost his job to Caleb Williams, in hindsight), kept his head up, rebounded at South Carolina and has quite literally forced himself back into the discussion. He looked fearless and ready for a variety of looks and speed at the Senior Bowl.
