Curoiusly, do you know if he signs after the season starts if there is a penalty as far as draft picks?

absolutely. Never let comp picks determine your FA signings. Since it is a 25 pick discount it at least a round so it is really a 4 or 5. Not huge value and certainly something you can replace by hitting on an undrafted FA or making a modest FA depth signing. I don't think the future round discount applies here because all comp picks are at the end of the round and you already know where they are going to be . They'll be picks 95,96, etc, so call it 1st, 2nd, etc, of the 4th.

Considering how much money and how quickly several other OG's went in FA is there a chance that Risner is not really a great OG? Especially when you consider the price the Vikings got him for mid-season in 2023 after clearing medicals.

Signing Risner mid-season was a good move. He was a little better than Cleveland and allowed us to trade Ezra for a pick when we knew he was leaving as an FA. But it seems like Risner overvalues himself. Not sure if thatβs him or his agent. Heβs a decent LG and maybe he signs later in when his price becomes more reasonable. The frustrating thing is for 15 years since Hutch left, this team has been unable to find a good LG that can hold down the position for 5 years. Incredible.

I don't know, and that deal's already done. I'm just saying the Vikings aren't bringing Risner back, so if someone else would sign him in the next month we'd get a comp pick. If he signs later in the year we get nothing. I'm generally in favor of us getting all we can when we can. I just think there is no chance anyone is signing Risner before the deadline and I think the Vikes knew that. So they thought that Griffin was worth a 2025 third round pick. You could be right on Risner's ability to get a contract. It seems he has no market. I did find the comp pick deadline date in a good article on the subject, it's 4pm on the Monday after the draft. There are other qualifiers as well, worth a read: sumersports.com/the-zone/comp-picks-explained/

He was good at first.. I won't be suprised if Brandel turns out ok. Is 23 too early to draft a guard ?

Signing Risner mid-season was a good move. He was a little better than Cleveland According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, Cleveland is set to make $28.5 million over three years with $14.5 million in guaranteed money.

Just like any other position you want to hit on the pick though. #11 isnβt too early for an OG if you get an All-Pro. Watching the debacle at OG for the Vikings the last several years, how could you overdraft an OG if you think he is a perennial Pro Bowl or better type?

Iβm trying to imagine a 310 pound man jumping 36 inches straight up. It doesnβt compute

We need more than 2 drafts worth of data but so far KAM hasn't drafted a single FCS player and only two picks have come from outside of FBS power five schools, that being Hall and Mcbride in the 5th and 7th rounds last year. I look for this to continue as the a nalyitics on FCS players likely tells KAM the chances of success are much better with FBS players. Doesn't mean they aren't going to draft an FCS player somewhere along the line but I don't look for it to happen when I'm trying to guess what the Vikes will do in the draft. That said I get that the power five schools have the majority of the NFL talent so that's where the majority of all picks are going to come from but when it comes to FCS guys the step up in competition is something some GM's put more emphasis on than others, my opinion is for how KAM does things it's going to favor the power five guys.
