I don’t think NE trades with us for less than 3yrs of #1s + JJ. You’re asking them to forgo drafting a guy who they think will be a franchise for the next decade + Not every team thinks Maye of JJ are franchise QB's, New England may be one of them, especially with a defensive minded Head coach. I've read reports that NE is not high on Maye. If that is true and Williams and Daniels go 1-2, they may(e) be open to a trade.

Since all top-3 need QB (to the extent they are building rosters around it happening), and what seems like a clear tier between those 3 and JJM, I think it takes an unprecedented package to get up, more than 11+23+2025 1st. There is also one of those 3 that the Vikings don’t like as much. I bet they wait to see if that guy is there at 3 and then pay whatever it takes, which, by draft chart standards is going to seem like we got fleeced. No there really is not a clear tier difference between JJM and the other 2. If anything seems like Maye might be the one that drops out of the top 3. Source?

The trade with Houston was done so that they can trade up for one of the top 4 QBs. Thats what’s likely to happen. My guess is that a deal happens before the draft if they’re going into the top 3 or during the draft if they’re targeting pick 4 or 5.
Anyone that thinks they should draft Bo Nix anywhere near the 1st round is not very smart.

My preference is to stand pat and take who falls, but at this point if they trade up I hope it’s not higher than the Chargers.
And I’ll probably eat my words on this… but I’m fine with McCarthy being the selection. In fact, as time has gone on, he’s probably become my default preference of the top 4, knowing Williams isn’t an option.
Daniels is a poor fit, Maye has all the tools but played in an offense that didn’t require reading the whole field and that, at least as it pertains to our offense, is the biggest prerequisite. Doesn’t mean he can’t, but there is zero ability to know. If you are going to move up in the draft and give up a truckload of picks…. You take the surest bet and in my eyes after Williams that is McCarthy. He was asked to read the whole field, he’s played under center and in a pro style offense, he’s confident and doesn’t seam phased by the moment and appears to have a great head and feel for the game with plenty of arm. The fact he wasn’t asked to do a lot because they were so dominant he didn’t need to….to me is the least risk to take on.
Maye in our offense is either going to be Josh Allen or Zack Wilson….I see no middle ground….and to me that’s more risk than I want to take if I’m betting the farm.

More you break down what JJM did and does the better he looks. actually a really good piece from Ourlads. I am a JJM guy, but I would take Maye over him for the huge ceiling. One guy I never hear JJM get comped to is Rodgers and honestly I think that is the closest match to him play style. Maye is exactly a Josh Allen clone and coaching staff that gets him job to tap all that talent.

Maye could turn out to be the better player long term if everything goes right, but McCarthy to me is the safer pick and shows intangibles you can’t coach. Winning matters, winning is contagious. Look at Mahomes, part of his greatness is he “expects” to win! With QB’s and kickers confidence and belief are enormous. When I watch McCarthy I see a guy that doesn’t get phased by pressure and situation…and that will win you a lot of games that are close….and close games are today’s NFL!

He is also one of the calmest guys in traffic. Another thing to mention with him was he had a lot of dropped passes last year. CG had 4 or 5 perfect passes dropped (2 by Loveland). Michigan only had 1 good receiver last year, and Loveland was ok at TE, but dropped a lot of passes.

I honestly don't know if Maye or McCarthy is the target and which one I think should be.
I like that KAM seems to have us positioned with options to move up depending on how the draft breaks.

Spending the farm to get the -third- rated QB would be very on brand

Don't give me the card at 4 because I'd change it to Marvin Harrison Jr. on the way up.
