It will likely take more than 11 and 23 to convince NE. Teams usually have to overpay to move up to get QB of choice.
An example is San Fran gave up 3 1sts and a 3rd to move up to 3 for Trey Lance.
So if you are the Vikings do you package 11 and 23 of this years draft with #1 pick for 2025 to move up?
I think there is a real solid chance this is NE's asking price. A lot of posters have asked, Why would NE move down? Probably take a trade like this to convince them to.

Sound like thatβs what they will have to do if Drake Maye is the quarterback they have targeted.

I would rather stay at #11 then make that move.

The good news is that a first round pick in this year's draft is worth more points than future first round picks. The point value of the Vikings two first round picks this year is worth slightly less than the third overall pick. But because it's moving up for a QB, I agree it will probably take a little more to get it done. Maybe a 2nd rounder next year or a 4th this year.
Anyone who thinks the Vikings are standing pat with these two first round picks is fooling themselves. This is the first step of making a move up into the top five.

Could be a big smoke show. Them signing McCown because he coached Maye in high-school. Them also acquiring pick 23. All just to stay at 11 and take Nix or at 23 and Verse at 11. They might think he is the most talented and polished prospect.

Who would you target at 11? If we're going to over draft then let it be Nix's or Penix at #11, and then take a OT or DT at #23, or move down from #23 and get a 2nd and a possible 3rd.

We can definitely agree to disagree. If he moves up and ends up taking the wrong guy and Nix and Penix end up having a better year then what we end up with; it's good bye to your career anyway. Like I said in a earlier thread; after the 3rd round there's really not much there. WR is about it after the 3rd round; after that it's anybody's guess. Maybe an OLmen will slip through the crack or possibly a CB or Safety, but other then that I wouldn't bank on it. So in other words for one player we're going to miss out on a strong 2nd and 3rd round in this years draft; okay. In my view (which we will disagree on) is that Nix or Penix's is and will prove to be as good if not better then the top so called 3........ Of course time will tell, but we could have that chance, and still build on our OL and front DL.

If they do not trade up (it is almost certain they will) more likely they would draft a Mitchell or Murphy and then maneuver the 23rd for Penix.

It really doesn't mean if one is right or wrong. Their going to do, what their to going to do. What we say doesn't matter; all it does is say's I was right and they wrong, or they were right, and I was wrong. This is called the fun time of the year to see what everybody else thinks. Some is crazy (funny), and some is Hmmmm; that's a thought. It's called fantasy land; we get to play GM. Sometimes you come up with some good ideas, and sometimes your ideas suck; like mine; in your mind. Hey; have fun with it and don't take things to serious.

I agree with most of both of your posts, but they are not drafting Nix or Penix at #11. Not even a whisp of smoke that they are in on Nix. There is no reason to smoke screen interest in Nix, no reason whatsoever. They have shown a lot of interest all the other top 5 guys. If you really want to speculate on something that has a possibility of happening the Vikings could trade up to #3 and have Daniels or Maye on the board and select JJM because they view him as their guy and that would make heads explode. Chances of them not moving up is very small at this point.

Since all top-3 need QB (to the extent they are building rosters around it happening), and what seems like a clear tier between those 3 and JJM, I think it takes an unprecedented package to get up, more than 11+23+2025 1st. There is also one of those 3 that the Vikings donβt like as much. I bet they wait to see if that guy is there at 3 and then pay whatever it takes, which, by draft chart standards is going to seem like we got fleeced.

Assuming that Williams and Danielβs will be off the board, is Maye or McCarthy worth all of that draft capitol to move up. It will be very interesting to see who the Vikings are actually targeting right now. My gut tells me itβs McCarthy, but what do I know.
