Twins win 5-3. Berrios gave up a couple of runs in the first 2 innings (1 on a solo HR) but settled down and mowed the Sox down averaging 1 SO/inning until the bottom of the eighth when a runner advanced to 2nd on a FC. Duffy actually got a save opportunity and retired the 2 batters he faced on 4 pitches. Yet, in the top of the 9th he was replaced by Romo who promptly gave up a lead off homer making it a 2 run game but at least got 1 righty batter out before giving way to Rogers who closed the game out.
Twins up 5 games with 12 to play.

Twins have Perez on the mound tonight who has well pitched well of late (including the last game he lost giving up a 3 run homer which ended up being the difference in the game) v. Detwiler going for the Pale Hose.

Perez was shaky throughout his outing giving up 10 hits in 4 2/3. May had to come in to get the final out with runners on.
However, after getting the 1st guy out the next inning on high fastballs, the next 2 (1st pitch swinging) launched long HR's on the same 96-97 high fastball which has no movement on it at all. The broadcast showed a graphic showing May has allowed less than 1 run per inning and 25 SO's in 20 innings but Duffy has a 0 era and 30K's in only 18 innings. Duffy's fastball (until recently was 97-99 mph) but his have movement and he has 3 other quality pitches to punch hitters out.
Game tied 5-5 after 6.

Duffy just validated everything I've been saying about him for the past few weeks. Struck out the side using his breaking stuff on the 1st, blew a 97 mph by hitter #2 and threw a 3-2 count curve ball that froze hitter #3.

Sure enough, Baldelli doesn't leave Duffy in. Romo came in and struck out the side with his patented junk while gimping on the mound (1st saw it in the Red Sox series where he came up lame--L knee). Fought through the same issue by buying time between pitches throwing over to 1st to keep a base runner (bunt single) nearly as often as he went to the plate sometimes just lobbing it to 1st base. Did his job but WTH is Baldelli thinking of leaving a pitcher out there in that condition and risk an injury that could limit or perhaps put Romo on the IL and not available in the playoffs?

Twins win in 12, 9-8. Had to come back 1 run down in the 10 to tie (Zittle gave up a lead off HR in the 10th). White Sox got 2 in the 12th off Harper but the Twins playing small ball with clutch hitting got 3 back in the bottom of the inning on a walk-off....HB.
Bardelli gambled by using up Rogers in the 9th with the game tied who managed to get out of the inning after putting 2 runners on base with a pitcher's favorite play (6-4-3 DP) finishing with a SO. Lucked out that the Twins came back to win despite 2 relievers who nearly gave the game away.
Magic number down to 7.

Gutsiest win to date. The boys never gave up despite the bullpens attempts to give it away. What a win. 7 more to clinch the central.
Let's go Twins!!!!

Twins kept battling back after first losing a 5 run lead. Great win moves their magic number to 7. Sano's 30th home run of the season makes MLB record
of 5 Twins with 30 or more.
The reason Baldelli used Rodgers in the 9th is because there cannot be a save situation for the home team when tied or behind in the 9th anyway.

Would be neat if Cleveland would lose some games. Then we can rest players sooner. Nothing against us winning, too, just be nice to get some help.

What would also be nice if Cleveland were to lose some games is it may give the Twins a chance to clinch at home. Not likely though.
Seems like Baldelli is doing a good job of giving players a day off and bringing dinged up players back slowly. The last scheduled regular season game is Sunday 9/29. The first playoff game for AL division winners is Friday 10/4, so setting up the rotation shouldn't be an issue.
They need to continue to play ball and take care of business though.

Indians have 3 against the Phillies and close out the year with a 3 game set v. the Nationals (who have something to play for re: home field advantage for the wildcard game against the Cubs). The Indians probably will lose at least 2 if not 3 of those 6 games IMO. A couple or 3 losses to the other divisional foes and the Twins realistically need to only win 2-3 games the rest of the way to clinch. Not that anyone wants them to be on a losing streak heading into the playoffs.

Twins lose 3-1. Odorizzi pitched a fine game (9k's in 5 2/3) but lost to the Sox who played the bullpen game (8 pitchers, the longest pitched 2 innings) who kept the Twins off stride except the 6th when the Twins got their run (and 1st hit of the night) but left the bases loaded when Wade grounded out weakly to end the inning.
Indians squeaked by the Tigers 2-1 in 10 so the lead is 4 1/2 with the Twins magic number remaining at 7.
