Good to hear that Donaldson is getting on track. How did Homer Bailey look? His stat line looked good other than giving up a 2 run HR making it 6-2 currently.

6-3 now. Lead off HR to deep center that Buxton had tracked all the way but let glance off his glove over the fence.
May grooved a FB right down the middle despite being ahead in the count 1-2. His FB has no movement on it at all, it's straight as a string and when hitters adjust to his velocity (94-97 mph, latter when his mechanics are all over the place and the pitch usually sails way high out out the zone) that's what happens.
Struck out the side afterward mixing in his slider (better than last year).

Romo on to pitch the 9th and hopefully close this game.

Romo pitched ok and closed the game out but it's clear that hitters know his slider is coming virtually every pitch. 1st Card's hitter nailed a liner to left center but Rosario tracked it down, 2nd hit a towering pop fly to center that Buxton put away and Romo managed to strike out the last batter (after a series of foul balls) leaving 1 base runner stranded.
On the the next game.

1 zip Twins going into the bottom of the 2nd. Cruz with a clutch 2 out, 3-2 count liner to the gap in right center that scored Arraez who's leading off tonight and drew a walk.
Thing to note is the difference in styles between R. Hill and D. Ponce De Leon (Cards' starter). Hill is a fast worker and goes to the plate without taking much time while De Leon takes all time and eternity to come to the plate. He's an even slower version of Kyle Gibson who I nicknamed, "The human Rain Delay" when he was on the mound. Twins batters stepped out of the box or called for time 3 times in the first and Donaldson, in particular, had a few choice words for De Leon after SO for making him wait so long to deliver the pitch. Infielders (and outfielders for that matter) hate having to stand around 10-15 secs between pitches (if not longer)
Hill has made made some adjustments to his mechanics. He doesn't nearly have the exaggerated leg kick like I saw in his highlights on his follow through. He has an outstanding curve with big time break on it. His best FB is low 90's (usually high 80's) but he hits the target no matter where the catcher sets up. If he can stay healthy, the Twins will have 5-6 starters who can give them quality starts virtually every outing making up for the lack of true #1 dominant pitcher.

Twins 2-0. Rosario with a solo shot to right. De Leon now picking up the pace in between pitches, his FB is now at 96 and he's struck out 8 but his pitch count is close to 80 so probably will come out next inning.
Twins add another after De Leon hit Cave, Marwin got a walk on what such have been strike 3 that would have ended the inning that led to De Leon being pulled. Avila then dunked a soft single to L that scored Cave so Twins now up 3-0 after 5.

Hill with another nice inning. Very efficient and has only thrown 67 pitches through 5 innings. In contrast, De Leon threw 86 when he got yanked after going 3 2/3.

Love Duffey (he's one of the most under rated relievers in all of MLB) who came in a the top of the 6th. Struck out the side mixing 4 quality pitches. Mid 90's velocity now but as the season goes on and he loosens up, his best FB clocked in at 97-98 topping out at 99 one game last year. Would like the Twins to use him for more than just 1 inning and/or as the set up guy to Rogers.

Romo now in for the 7th. Have to LOL at how a guy with his kind of junk (slider in the 70's and FB only mid 80's) can survive at the ML level. Plus now he's sporting a Fidel Castro beard.

Rogers finally in a game for the 1st time this year to close this game out. Rogers looks really sharp spotting his 95 mph FB and mixing in breaking balls. 2 SO out of 3 batters to retire the side and made it look easy (only threw 11 pitches with 9 for strikes)
On the the next game and hopefully win all 3 games of the series.
