I know that Zimmer is not going 3-4. But it seems to me that 3-4 defenses have in recent years been the more dominant ones. And I do think that, assuming Hunter can play a rush 3-4 OLB (which I very much think he can), the Vikes have the personnel to make the switch right now.
The front 7 would look like:
DE: Griffen / Odenigbo (splitting time) NT: Joseph, Stephen DT: Holmes, Herc / Watts (depending on run/pass reserve)
PR-OLB (primarily, but a pass rusher but less than a DE): Hunter, Weatherly ILB: Kendricks, Wilson, Cliett ILB: Gedeon, Smith OLB: Barr, Downs
You could mix things up going a little heavier (e.g. Holmes at DE, Joseph at NT and Stephen at DT) or lighter in pass rush sets. LBs could also be adjusted for speed versus thumpin' (replacing Gedeon /Smith with Wilson or Cliett next to Kendricks or each other). I like the possibilities moreso than I like via the 4-3... and while the defensive line is a little light for what you would want - Griffen and Odenigbo are from what I can tell heavier than their listed weights, and Herc could play that spot too.

Holmes is probably the only good fit on DL for a 3-4... Technically they are in a 3-4 every time Hunter is in a 2 pt stance... He does that less and less as time moves on... I do not think Griff, Joseph, or Stephen are good 2 gap candidates... JJ might be a better 2 gap vs 1 gap guy, but you do not even have him listed...
