IMO -
The best thing that could have happened to the Vikings, despite the negative connotation to it, was that two starters/backup CBs (Hughes/Mac) were sidelined for the Saints game. On paper, this would seem overwhelming and potentially deflating, since we have been poor against the pass all year and need all the help we could get.
However, what this did was forced Zim and Edwards to change up the coverages and gameplan differently for Drew Brees, Michael Thomas, and the air attack. This was key for two reasons:
1) The secondary needed help to cover one of the best WRs in the game; Michael Thomas
2) It provided new and different looks and allowed Zim/Edwards to gameplan like a true coach and team should to prepare and beat a team in the playoffs
How freaking awesome that the Vikings took a negative and turned it, not only into a positive, but a possible job-saving and team saving scenario that could possibly learn from this and prosper?!
Side note, one guy they didn't game plan for was Taysom Hill. That dude lit us up, but we maintained serve and held the Saints from victory.

I am just glad the Packers did not know how to use Hill and let him go. He has made the Saints a multi dimensional offense that can take advantage of any defense that they face.

I believe ur right about the game planning. Zimmer was originally hungry and game planning seemed regular. Then maybe big picture stuff took over his time. He has the d smarts, he just needs to do the game by game in depth homework again.

I agree but one thing to not be overlooked is the fact that Zimmer used all of the media as fuel for a bunch of grown men to come out and manhandle the saints.
For a man that doesn't show much emotion and has a non chalant attitude, he used this to fire up the team and I think that was the main factor. BUT, he did a masterful job on defense yesterday.

That's what we often see in public, but behind the scenes I think Zimmer is much different and anything but nonchalant. Just listen to how some former players talk about him.
