kind of commitment he was looking for.
I commented at the time that Kirk obviously defined commitment as money.
Wonder what he is thinking today. Looks to me like Atlanta just gave him a 2 year window and denied him a major weapon.
you could have added a premier WR or pass rusher. They CAN NOT get to the QB which is a MUST have. To catch the ball they have Pitts and not much else. Kind of funny that Turner, Verse, Latu, Murphy Jr. and Odunze were all right there.

Itβs not the dollars, itβs what they represent.
What they represent is the Falconsβ owner wanted one thing but the front office knows he won one playoff game in 12 years.

"When the owner, General Manager, head coach, and quarterback are on the same page, that's when you have really a chance to go win a Super Bowl," Cousins said. "As I looked at the Atlanta Falcons, I believe strongly that the owner, head coach, General Manager, and quarterback can all be on the same page. And that's exciting for me, and so that's why I'm thrilled to be here."

However, to say "...Pitts and not much else" is crazy. Did you forget about Drake London? Drake London was over the moon with the news of Cousins signing.

Falcons were crazy to give him $45M/yr with all that guaranteed money. Just his age already made it that Kirk probably has a 2 year window.
I wonβt be surprised at all if he re-injures that Achilles' tendon and the Falcons will need a backup. I like Penix but heβs an injury risk too so Iβm not shocked they took a qb as much as which one.

On one hand this pick is crazy as Atlanta went all in and should have picked the best Offensive or Def weapon available to increase their odds of their SB push. I however, view this move as An Insurance policy to secure their window is still open if Kirk goes down while having a succession plan in place in 3 years if Kirkβs play declines. I really donβt think itβs that crazy. Questionableβ¦ yes, unexpectedβ¦ yes, stupid β¦maybe not!

I think bulk of Kirks contract is guaranteed over the first 2 years so its kind of is a 2 year deal anyway. It was 90 million guaranteed over the first 2 seasons with the third season having 10 million guaranteed which would be easier to eat if they wanted to move on at that point. Though they still would have his bonus money against the cap. With Penix on the rookie contract, numbers wise it does make sense for a possible transition in a few years.

Kirk went to Atlanta because they showed him the money, that the Vikings wouldn't.
I'm glad the Vikings moved on from him.

KC went to Atlanta because the Vikes were stupid enough not to lock up KC for 2 more years instead of the 1 year extension two years ago at a considerably lower cost. Now we have to hope our new QB isnβt destroyed in his first appearances as he wonβt have a maturation time behind a reliable starter. Which would you rather have JJM sit a year behind KC or 1-2 months behind Darnoldβ¦

Kirk could have explained to JJM how he WON that one playoff game. JJM could have shown Kirk his National Championship ring. Maybe let him hold it.

We spent nearly $300m for a single playoff win.
Pretty crappy ROI in my book.

I'm sure the Vikings made a fair offer to Kirk. An aging QB coming off a serious injury. The Falcons made a big reach, and rolled out the money train for Cousin's. Kirk has always been a money mercenary. I get that. The Vikings stood firm. They realized it was time to address the future of the QB position.
I sincerely hope that JJM will be the QB we are all hoping for.
