The Vikings have several contingency plans based on what happens before them.
The one not talked about might be the one we find ourselves in next season.
Harbaugh has gutted his offense, he very well might want to tie himself to his young QB that just gave him a National title for his personal re-build.
That means he has a QB deal to make, trading one after the kid of his choice drops to him.
Have the Vikings considered this as one of their options?
What value does a Hebert have???

I don't care who he is, I don't like tying the team to another quarter of a billion bucks after finally getting rid of the Cousins' contract albatross. Look what the team did with FA in just one year of NOT paying Cousins over 40 mil. IMO getting a QB on a 5 year rook deal could make this team a contender for years to come. It's worth the risk!!

Harbaugh must not believe a high paid QB is a detriment to winning.

A pre-June 1 trade of Herbert would leave the Chargers with 108 million of 2024 dead cap. I'm gonna say this doesn't happen.

Harbaugh must not believe a high paid QB is a detriment to winning. Isn't the whole premise of this particular bit of speculation that Harbaugh wants to replace Hebert (high paid QB) with JJM (rookie contract)? Not that I think such a deal is going to happen.

You are correct. I read the extension as having just occurred under Harbaugh but it happened on 2023 so my mistake.

You are correct. I read the extension as having just occurred under Harbaugh but it happened on 2023 so my mistake. He had a small signing bonus last year and then option bonus this year and then one next year. Once they paid his option bonus last week he became unmovable. Harbaugh picked that job for Herbert.

I think that means that if the Charges do that they can't make any moves or sign any players including their draft class till after June 1st because they will be over the cap until then. Not sure on that though. Now if the Vikings make the trade they will most likely have to restructure a few contracts to fit him under the cap this year. So it would be difficult to say the least.

I think you're talking about a cut not a trade. You can cut a guy prior to June 1 but designate the cut for cap purposes to be post-June 1. However a trade happens when it happens afaik. If they trade Herbert now, they take the 108 mil hit. If they trade him after June 1st, the dead cap is 13 mil.
