Well the proof is in the pudding then Kirk.
Well, hopefully Aaron Rodgers fills us in on the Pat McAfee show. Between this, riding JJ's feelings in the pressers and the way we crawled back to Nick Mullens, goooooooood looooooorrrrdd.....

One playoff win in 6 years. Heβs a nice guy, hard working, smart, tough , and can really sling the football. Heβs 36, coming off of a severe injury and has never won a thing when it counts. Itβs time. Name a currently active QB that has Mahomes X2 (chink in the armor as they don't own home field the entire playoffs) Stafford (albeit for a different team then the one that drafted him and he was not the difference maker), but hey he is in the playoffs for the 5th time in his career (4-3 with the wins coming in 22 with the Rams. Goff who he replaced is 3-3) Flacco monster defense and it was 11 years ago (But a bit of revival with the browns Wilson 10 years ago (Doneski) Rodgers 12 years ago (Wrecked an entire team after 4 snaps)

After all, they both have historically done the exact same thing when it comes to winning SBβs. Nothing.

28 million void year next year, you could re-sign him at 30 for two years throw the void year into 2027 and actually lower your cap hit for next year. He is the bridge QB. If you let him go and bring a a QB for over two million, you're at 30 mill for next year at the QB position anyway. At some point, you're going to have to "eat" that money. I say do it now as it seems like a natural transition period we are now in, like it or not. KAM and KOC are now mostly done with the bloated contracts they inherited. I've modified my position slightly as the number of holes we have in this team negates bringing Kirk back. I think you only bring Kirk back if you truly believed next year we can contend for a championship. But we cant. Unfortunately. We need to realistically shoot at a 2025 or a 2026 timeframe for things to all come together. That is, make all moves going forward that benefit us for '25 or '26.

You can make reasonable arguments for and against resigning Kirk.
For me it comes down to this; if they don't resign Cousins they have to be "pot committed" to get their franchise QB in the 2024 draft.

We havenβt picked this high in years. The QB class is deep. If not this year then when?

There are plenty of teams that are in the same boat as the Vikings... several of them are in better draft position the Vikings. - There are at least 3 teams with picks ahead of the Vikings that will draft a QB (NE, ATL, Wash) - There are at least 3 teams with picks ahead of the Vikings that will seriously consider drafting a QB (Tenn, NYJ, Arizona, Chi) - There are another 3 teams picking after the Vikings that will take a serious look at moving up to draft a QB (Den, LV, Sea) IMO - the Vikings are going to have to trade up to get their guy and it will take numerous 1sts and 2nds to do it. So, if they don't retain Cousins... they are going to have to fully commit to trading up to get one of the 2nd tier QB prospects in this draft.

It has been well documented that the cap is not prohibiting any body from signing players.
Best move is resign Kirk and draft the future and draft linemen

Kirks contract does handcuff the team a bit, but not nearly as much as most portray. I am all for drafting the QB of the future, I am not for trotting out Mullins or Dobbs until the new QB is ready. After Pennix's performance last night I hope he is there for us to draft. McCarthy is intriguing but right now I hope Nix or Pennix will be there at 11. And sit for at least a year learning the speed of the game.
