This is dead right The crap shoot cheerleaders are dead wrong Been playing the Kirk game for years and has not moved the needle and you want to invest heavy in his decline years after a major injury... That is your plan? My plan is keep Kirk, draft linemen early and see what we have in the kid Hall and draft the best qb we can where it makes sense. If we can move up and get one of the βsure thing crap shotsβ then do it. The cap is not prohibiting that.

That is your plan? The problem is we're not likely going to draft high enough to get one of the guys that you could put talent around and feel good about his rookie season. So thanks to another .500 season of football, the QB the team drafts, while hopefully developing into a good one, is probably not going to be CJ Stroud and show up and have a great rookie season. So that leaves us with a stopgap guy in year 3 of KOC. Hard to imagine there will be a better QB on a short term deal than Kirk. While I don't think the team ever wins anything with him, they're not going to go into next year with someone the equivalent of Nick Mullens starting while a rookie develops for a year or two.

Vikings will offer Kirk a fair contract. It'll be up to him whether he accepts. Vikings will also draft a QB. Both can be the right move. This is what I would like to see. If Cousins will sign or a one maybe 2 year term friendly contract...Im ok with that. But if he wants north of 45...Im out Either way...Time to follow the current NFL blueprint of a a hopeful franchise QB even if we have to mortgage a small fortune and move up to get him...If he is the right Guy and we hit....we are set

I think we easily could have won with Kirk last year if we had anything resembling a defense. And this year we could have won with him, we were on that trajectory when he got hurt

Couple problems with Kirk
He is likely going to want Huge money which just makes no sense.
He is coming off a major injury and had very limited mobility before it.
His lack of mobility shows up as a problem against the better defenses. Game plan becomes pressure and that is hard to stop in todays NFL. Tons of great pass rushers.
I like and respect Kirk but he has to be willing to go team friendly. Vikings are a great situation for him to return to. If he doesn't see that you let him walk.

If Vikes lose out... they could pick around 10. Even so, lots of talented qbs picked 10 and beyond: Allen Hurts Jackson Even Mahomes was 10 I think It's supposed to be a deep QB class. Vikes have quite a bit of offensive talent. We just need a lightning strike here in MN for once at qb.

Even though it seems obvious that they sign Kirk to a short term, incentive laden contract and draft our future QB, I have a sneaking suspicion that it wonβt go down that way.
I would be surprised if he is on the team in 2024 for a myriad of reasons.
