The signing is the most lucrative contract the sport has ever seen, topping Mike Trout's 12-year,
$426.5 million agreement with the Los Angeles Angels, Aaron Judgeβs nine-year,
$360 million pact with the New York Yankees and Bryce Harperβs 13-season, $330 million agreement with the Philadelphia Phillies
So why not offer 10 years $500M? Seems like a ridiculous salary escalation to me.

Reportedly 4 MLB teams were willing to go at least 500 million on Ohtani.
Dodgers, Giants, Blue Jays and Angels

It would seem that Ohtaniβs contract would put the Dodgers over the cap limit.

MLB doesn't have a true cap. Just a luxury tax and the Dodgers will likely be over and have to pay it.
And the Dodgers are owned by Group Ownership.

Small market teams are f'd. They won't be able to sign anyone and they won't be able to compete for championships.
