The Tigers have not confirmed the reported $24 million deal, which is pending a physical. Two-year deal.
More than I would have expected and I'm glad the Twins didn't overpay for his services.
Our starting rotation probably looks like this for the present time.
Depth appears to be an issue as I don't think there is any starting pitching that is ML ready at AAA.
Ryan Ober Lopez Paddack Varland

The Cardinals on Monday reached an agreement on a contract with right-hander Sonny Gray,
according to a source. The Cardinals have not confirmed the deal, which is for three years and $75 million,
according to a report from The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.
βGoing into this thing. I wanted to be a Cardinal,β Gray said at his introductory news conference at Busch Stadium.
βThat started probably a little over a year ago. Itβs a place that every time I've come here as a visitor,
I've looked at the stadium and I've said, βWow, this place is incredible!β
Good for him getting this deal. There's No way the Twins pay him something comparable and I wish him well.

I'm expecting the Twins to make a move to trade for a starter.
Trading one or some combination of Polanco, Kepler, VΓ‘zquez & Farmer.
The Twins may also feel Varland is better suited for the BP.

Could the Twins get any value for Buxton??? I'm guessing no value until he proves he can play in the field and even than he's got to prove it over an entire season. If not maybe the Twins can convince him to medically retire. He is just not good enough hitter to be a full time DH. Regardless I expect the Twins to give him every chance in 2024 to comeback but at some point the Twins have to do what is best for the team.

I didnβt expect Gray or Maeda to return. Iβm hoping that Paddack can replace Maeda in the rotation. Not sure of their plans for Varland. Guessing they trade for another starter to replace Gray.

Neither did I. I figured Gray would be a hotly pursued and Maeda just isn't good enough plus both got more than I would want the Twins to pay. Varland should be with the Twins going forward in what capacity TBD. He looked good as a reliever, but he said he'd prefer to start. Polanco, Kepler & Farmer are all free agents after 2024. Do they get traded and what kind of trade value do they have?
