My favorite three among the lower rounders available are DTR from UCLA, Tune from Houston, and Bagent from Shepherd.
All three have more than enough stature, hand size, athleticism and production to develop for 1 year and then possibly start. And yeay, no big trades required.

If all you are looking for is a career backup you could draft one of those guys. History shows that if you don't select one of the top rated QBs you are probably out of luck. Look at the last 20 or so drafts and try to find a franchise or superbowl caliber QB drafted after the first round. Wilson, Brees and Hurts are about it.

Kwesi has shown he is all about trading and he does not seem totally committed to Cousins after this year, so I expect us to be aggressive going after a QB. If Stroud, Richardson or Levis fall, I would not be surprised to see us move up.

Iβm Not Against Any trade this draft up, and only for the lack of picks (5) not touting it for a Richardson/Levis type. That old saying that next yearβs draft has a better QB class Rarely works with slotting luck, injuries, & surprise downfalls yet to come.
Really, the β23 draft has few wow players overall, slim blue chip numbers.

We should either trade back and accumulate best possible players OR be aggressive and go get our QB. Please do not settle for a QB in the later rounds just to say we have a QB.

Bagent would be interesting simply from the standpoint of having his father around. The interview Pelissero did with him at the Senior Bowl and they end up arm wrestling is hilarious. He would be great entertainment though in reality thatβs probably not a good thing. I get a sense from the interviews Iβve seen that dad makes most of the decisions for Tyson and is over involved in his sports career, might be a concern, might be nothing, but that was the sense I got.

Not sure if a late round project quarterback offers anything more than Mullens or what a player at another position could bring.

But over 90 percent of all franchise level quarterbacks were drafted in the first round.

Yes sir, draft is crap shoot we have too many other holes to fill, so qb should not be wasted with first pick.....get best aval player to fill a hole. Qb is at least filled for one more year. Ok to pick up one in lower rounds maybe we get lucky

Cousins was a fourth round pick. I wouldn't consider Cousins a franchise or Superbowl caliber QB. He is good but not great. Maybe he is maybe he isn't he is clearly better than more QBs than not... So just for fun... Here is every QB drafted since 1998, (25 years). Check my math but I see 302 QBs drafted over the last 25 years. Of those, only 17 are clearly(Black) better than Kirk has been to date. (trying to be bias) another 12(Orange) I think are arguable. Kirk was drafted #102 and the 8th QB taken in 2012. These number put him in the 90th percentile. Of the 17 clearly better QBs only 8 were the first or second QB drafted in their class, less than half, and 97th percentile. 2022 1 1 20 20 Kenny Pickett Steelers Pittsburgh 2 3 10 74 Desmond Ridder Falcons Cincinnati 3 3 22 86 Malik Willis Titans Liberty 4 3 30 94 Matt Corral Panthers Mississippi 5 4 32 137 Bailey Zappe Patriots Western Kentucky 6 5 1 144 Sam Howell Commanders North Carolina 7 7 20 241 Chris Oladokun Steelers South Dakota State 8 7 26 247 Skylar Thompson Dolphins Kansas State 9 7 41 262 Brock Purdy 49ers Iowa State 2021 1 1 1 1 Trevor Lawrence Jaguars Clemson 2 1 2 2 Zach Wilson Jets Brigham Young 3 1 3 3 Trey Lance 49ers North Dakota State 4 1 11 11 Justin Fields Bears Ohio State 5 1 15 15 Mac Jones Patriots Alabama 6 2 32 64 Kyle Trask Buccaneers Florida 7 3 2 66 Kellen Mond Vikings Texas A&M 8 3 3 67 Davis Mills Texans Stanford 9 4 28 133 Ian Book Saints Notre Dame 10 6 34 218 Sam Ehlinger Colts Texas 2020 1 1 1 1 Joe Burrow Bengals Louisiana State 2 1 5 5 Tua Tagovailoa Dolphins Alabama 3 1 6 6 Justin Herbert Chargers Oregon 4 1 26 26 Jordan Love Packers Utah State 5 2 21 53 Jalen Hurts Eagles Oklahoma 6 4 16 122 Jacob Eason Colts Washington 7 4 19 125 James Morgan Jets Florida International 8 5 21 167 Jake Fromm Bills Georgia 9 6 10 189 Jake Luton Jaguars Oregon State 10 7 10 224 Cole McDonald Titans Hawaii 11 7 17 231 Ben DiNucci Cowboys James Madison 12 7 26 240 Tommy Stevens Saints Mississippi State 13 7 30 244 Nate Stanley Vikings Iowa 2019 1 1 1 1 Kyler Murray Cardinals Oklahoma 2 1 6 6 Daniel Jones Giants Duke 3 1 15 15 Dwayne Haskins Redskins Ohio State 4 2 10 42 Drew Lock Broncos Missouri 5 3 36 100 Will Grier Panthers West Virginia 6 4 2 104 Ryan Finley Bengals North Carolina State 7 4 31 133 Jarrett Stidham Patriots Auburn 8 5 28 166 Easton Stick Chargers North Dakota State 9 5 29 167 Clayton Thorson Eagles Northwestern 10 6 5 178 Gardner Minshew Jaguars Washington State 11 6 24 197 Trace McSorley Ravens Penn State2018 1 1 1 1 Baker Mayfield Browns Oklahoma 2 1 3 3 Sam Darnold Jets USC 3 1 7 7 Josh Allen Bills Wyoming 4 1 10 10 Josh Rosen Cardinals UCLA 5 1 32 32 Lamar Jackson Ravens Louisville 6 3 12 76 Mason Rudolph Steelers Oklahoma State 7 4 8 108 Kyle Lauletta Giants Richmond 8 5 34 171 Mike White Cowboys Western Kentucky 9 6 25 199 Luke Falk Titans Washington State 10 6 29 203 Tanner Lee Jaguars Nebraska 11 7 1 219 Danny Etling Patriots Louisiana State 12 7 2 220 Alex McGough Seahawks Florida International 13 7 31 249 Logan Woodside Bengals Toledo2017 1 1 2 2 Mitchell Trubisky Bears North Carolina 2 1 10 10 Patrick Mahomes Chiefs Texas Tech 3 1 12 12 Deshaun Watson Texans Clemson 4 2 20 52 DeShone Kizer Browns Notre Dame 5 3 23 87 Davis Webb Giants California 6 3 40 104 C.J. You have just as big a chance to draft a bust and be out of luck taking a first round QB... Agreed. It's 50/50 in the first round at best. But over 90 percent of all franchise level quarterbacks were drafted in the first round. Lets look at that, in this list of the 50 greatest QBs of all time (not my list, easiest to copy and past) didn't look up draft position for bunch of the very old guys... Interestingly, 10 of top 20 were not drafted in the 1st round or were cut/traded by draft team. Three were drafted out of the top 10. Orange is drafted outside of first round or had success after leaving drafted team Blue is not first QB or drafted after 5th pick50.
