Depends on price. If you could get him for a late round pick, or maybe a late round pick plus a player you are interested in trading anyway, it might be a worthwhile roll of dice for future KC replacement. I would not spend a high pick on it.

A GM widely praised around the league for building an exceptional team via the draft is looking to move a QB he gave up 3 first round picks and 1 third round pick to get, just two seasons ago. Why would the niners make that trade unless someone offers something stupid? Something stupid starts with recouping a first-round pick. A head coach widely praised as an offensive guru is looking to pivot from said QB after heβs made just 4 starts. And largely based on 5 starts from another young QB. A QB likely to miss most of, if not the entire season.
A combined cap of just over $15 million for the 3 QB's currently on the roster. So, itβs not a money issue. The team was so worried about Lance that they gave serious thought to hiring the QB guru they sent him to both off-season's. Who had no NFL coaching experience, as their QB coach. Windows to win in the NFL are increasingly small and SF is built to win. Rolling into 2023 with Sam Darnold as the guy taking most of the snaps. God knows who as the backup. While gambling the season on a QB with 5 starts coming off a major injury to maintain their level of play last year, doesn't reek of win now.

Is there any scenario where you could trade back with SF and pick up Lance in the trade? It doesn't look like they have a pick until late third round (where they have three) which is a long way back from #23 in the first round.
Texans have a LOT of picks. Maybe we could trade back our first for their second and third round picks (#2 in each round) and then trade our newly-acquired top of the third round pick to SF for two of their bottom of the 3rd round picks plus Trey Lance?
That seems a pretty far out scenario, but KAM does like to trade....
We'd sacrifice the 23th pick overall to get the 33rd pick overall, two picks somewhere around 100th, and Trey Lance. SF would get to move up about 30 slots in the 3rd round (almost to 2nd round) at the cost of two late 3rd round picks and Trey Lance. Houston would get a third pick in the first round instead of their best second and third round picks.

Obviously the Vikes wouldn't trade a 1st or a 2nd. And I don't Kirk is in the deal either. I think they would trade a 3rd or 4th and a player or two like Cook or perhaps Z Smith some combination of that. I could see them doing the trade for something like that, but still drafting a QB this year or next to compete with Lance. Just because Lynch decided he wasn't their QB of the future doesn't mean KOC thinks the same way. As long as that ankle is ok, why not trade for him to sit behind Kirk. Again the trade doesn't include a 1st or 2nd from us.

Lance is only 23. Was considered a project coming out. Has big upside with a big arm and mobility. Very athletic with nice size.
Injuries hold a lot of players back. I want KOC to take a hard look on this one. Lance could learn a lot sitting behind Kirk for a year.
Lynch is 52-46 as a GM and has the same number of Superbowl wins as an executive as Kwesi with a more attempts.

Lance is 23 a year old project drafted third overall with 2 NFL off-season's under his belt. The franchise swung big with what they gave up to get him. He was outplayed by a 23 year old mega project who went undrafted. That big upside doesn't seem to show during Niners camps, practices or games. Otherwise we wouldn't be having this conversation. As for Lynch he had gotten rid of all the previous regimes mistakes and built "his team" through the draft in just two seasons. Hell by the start of his second season he had got rid of or not re-signed 35 players from the Baalke era. Since 2019 he is 42-24 has been to two NFCC games and a Super Bowl. One is widely praised for his drafts, the other was destroyed for their 2022 draft. Im as big of a Kwesi fan as there is but to compare the two is laughable.

Again the trade doesn't include a 1st or 2nd from us. The problem with sitting behind Kirk is that 2023 is the 3rd year of Lance's rookie deal. If he doesn't play this year, the Vikings will have to make a decision on his 5th year option next spring without him playing meaningful snaps. If a team is trading for Lance, he has to play in 2023. the 5th yr option for a QB is like $30mm. If KOC thinks Lance can be a long term starter then trade Kirk for Lance and one of the Niners 3rd rounders. Lance gets a year to show what he's go. If he sucks, you don't pick up the 5th year option and draft a guy in 2024 which we were doing anyway.
