I’m on record as saying I don’t want Hooker because of where we’d have to draft him. There’s no doubt in my mind he has a lively arm and throws a great ball…. But I have no confidence in his ability to read a defense and go through progressions. He might be great… he might be awful and to me he’s boom or bust and I don’t want to spend a 1 or 2 on a guy that has so many question marks.
So this brings me back to Lance. I read today our day said he wasn’t sure if he’d play in 23 and if you think about SF….their window opened 3 years ago and is going to start to close. What has held them back….QB! And it isn’t so much “play” but health! The SF QB spot has been a revolving mash unit for 4 years! So if your window is closing do you want to chance it with Lance who A). You don’t know a lot about yet. B). You don’t know if he can stay healthy and C) your GM already indicated it was Purdy’s job when he comes back!
So to me, it is very much in SF interest to trade Lance for say… the QB that never misses games and is familiar with your offense.
I’m on record as saying I’d prefer to keep Kirk. But if Vikings are hellbent on moving on and I have to chose…. Between Holker and Lance…. I might prefer Lance because that would get us a young QB that already has some knowledge of being a pro & it likely also allows us to get a young QB without giving up any meaningful draft picks or mortgaging our future on an unknown, I think that’s a far better solution than using draft capital to spin the Roulette wheel while letting Kirk walk with no comp!
Part of me worries about why SF would give up on a guy they gave a kings ransom for…. But I think it boils down to having Purdy under contract for years at next to nothing vs 11M and climbing for Lance.
Anyway… I’d still prefer to extend Kirk and draft in 24. But the plan I least like is letting Kirk walk while getting nothing in return.
