Where does that "full sized" NT come from? Are there any available via Free Agency? There do not seem to be any in the draft.ย I think they are going to stay with Tonga, but pick up at least one ILB.ย Mazi Smith in the draft is a classic 2 down NT. Little rich at #23, but not sure how far you can drop to get him?ย Jeremiah is mocking Smith to the Boys at 26, so not far, if that's true.

I don't see Mazi Smith being a dominant NT and he's just OK for size, e.g. only 6'3" tall... The game is about finding value and there is not enough upside for Smith relative to Tonga to warrant using even a high second round pick for him. Let some other team take him.

Mazi has elite athletic ability for a 6'3" 325+ NT that is why he is jumping up the rankings. He had top end run stopping and penetration in school, but never had the pass rush numbers. He is by a far shot the strongest DL in the draft and ranks pretty high on agility and burst for his weight.

He's a good DL, and he may be the strongest DL in this draft, but Mazi Smith is NOT going to be a dominant NT and he's not a huge upgrade from Tonga (who is actually larger). Also, I don't know whose rankings he may be jumping up. The scouting boards I read suggest Mazi Smith may stagnate a bit on draft day. Some of them suggest he has a specific problem with double teams. Spending your first round draft on him would be a waste. Right now I would have to say the top pick is likely to be a CB, because we need help at that position and there's going to be about four high-quality CB prospects available in the late part of the 1st round. And I think that has potential to be a much, much, much better value use of our pick.
