A long video for PP to essentially just dance around having to say, βOur pass rush sucked and Ed never adjusted.β
PP tries to clumsily say that it was all just because our pass rush was just so good that teams βfinally realized itβ (this doesnβt take half a season; more like half a game where adjustments by good or even decent coaches are made immediately) and started chipping our DEs.
Soβ¦an extremely basic, well understood and often deployed pass blocking scheme was used by opponents and that was it for us? Itβs just completely impossible for our defense to be effective once teams βlearnedβ to chip our DEs?
Thatβs amazing! I canβt believe none of the top 10 defenses in the league were ever chipped. We should hold onto this golden nugget of competitive advantage insight for next season so we too can dominate everyone.

I think player personnel should be considered as one of the reasons for the lack of success. Peterson isn't going to say that. Z. Smith going from defensive player of the year to jag mid-season didn't help. Peterson isn't going to say that either

didn't help that Sullivan, Kendricks, Hicks and Bynum couldn't cover me. So multiple check down options were ALWAYS open so the pass rush has no chance to get home.
But PP isn't going to say that because he has some class.

Im kinda done with Pat P and his play and comments
Z and Hunter were both in the top 10 in pressures If the could have covered for a second more and were more aggressive on the back end then they wouldn't be ranked 31st.

I think PP has a valid point.
First 10 weeks of the season we had 2+ sacks in every game except the Bears and the Lions and we went 8-1, and until the last game of that stretch, the Bills, scored thirty, no other team had scored more than 26 points against us. Za'Darius Smith got NINE of his 10 sacks for the season in those weeks, before getting injured.
The last 8 weeks of the season, with Z injured, we got decent sacks in only two games -- the record comeback game against the Colts and against the Giants -- went 5-3, and gave up 26+ points in five of the games.

But maybe those pressures are not entirely comparable with one another. See this list that has Z among the top 10, but Danielle Hunter doesn't even get an honorable mention (possibly because he only came on stronger later in the season): www.nfl.com/news/2022-nfl-season-s-top-10-edge-rushers-no-1-spot-goes-to-browns-myles-garrett-ove

"The Eagles and Chiefs ranked 1-2 in sacks during the regular season, with Philly recording 70 quarterback takedowns, and Kansas City registering 55."

Ed was hired and was handled a plate of dog poo. He was to mold it, teach it, love it and/or sculpt it into something useful and pretty. Instead he got a Central Asian Shepherd Dog and let it shart on the plate of dog poo every week (except Week 1) making the pile exponentially bigger. Hopefully the new DC can pull an Antonio Canova.
