The NFL schedule makers decided they wanted to start things off with a bang in 2022 as they have the Green Bay Packers traveling to US Bank Stadium to take on the Vikings in Week 1 action on Sunday September 11th. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:25 PM CST and the game will be carried on Fox. Please reply to this thread with your guess of the final score by kickoff. If you decide to change your guess, please post another reply with your new guess. I enter guesses into a spreadsheet throughout the week and I probably won't notice if you edit the score on your original post. Your last guess will be the one used for the contest. Your score is calculated by finding the difference of your guess (above or below) to the actual score for each team and adding them together. I will announce the Weekly winners when I post the next weeks Predict the Score Contest. I will also post a link to my spreadsheet that will show all of the results for the season and the average number of points per week that you were off. As with the other contests, this is quick, simple and all in good fun. The more people that participate, the more fun it is.
Week 1 is usually hard to predict at the start of any season, but this season has so many new parts and unanswered questions, I have no clue what things are actually going to look like when they kick this thing off. I have high hopes that the offense is going to look much more dynamic under KOC, but I don't know that is is going to be clicking on all cylinders in Week 1. I believe the Vikings Offense lead the league in 3 and outs last season. This hurts your team on so many levels. 1) You're not scoring points on the drive. 2) You're not getting first downs to flip the field position even if you don't score. 3) You are putting your defense right back out on the field, many times a short field, and they will get worn down. The Vikings have plenty of playmakers on offense and I believe KOC will have an offensive scheme that will do much better in the 3 and out category.
The Vikings defense is also all new. I have high hopes that Za'darius Smith and Danielle Hunter can stay healthy. If so, they can be a disruptive force that will help the back end of the defense. I hope the new emphasis on Illegal Contact penalties doesn't turn into a flag on every other play. The Vikings' Defense was historically bad last season, especially in the last two minutes of the half and game. There has to be improvement in that area. The Vikings also must do a better job of stopping the run.
The Special Teams unit looks to be going into Week 1 with some confidence. Greg Joseph has kicked well in preseason and a kinder, gentler regime should help his psyche. The Vikings' new punter, Ryan Wright, looks to have a big leg or should I just say his leg is in proportion to the rest of him? He is listed at 6' 3" and 245 pounds and he is a former high school quarterback so I expect a fake punt or two with him this season.
All this being said, what does it all mean? I still have no clue.
I'm putting the purple shades on for Week 1 and I'll adjust from there.
Packers 24
Vikings 27
