The defense will be in rebuild mode. I think CB is the most glaring need, then linebacker, then defensive end. On offense, a new center is needed. Then a backup RB and maybe additional WR depth. At TE, we should be good if Herndon can be retained, possibly Stocker. Maybe add a fourth TE as rookie free agent.
1. Ahmad Garnder, CB. Despite all the emphasis on this, still a major need. Maybe retain Peterson, but still need additional help. 2. Christian Harris, LB. 3. Jarrett Patterson, C.

no thanks on Stocker, he was terrible and too old for Vikings. Defense will definately need to go heavy D side of the ball.

I believe the Vikings, under new leadership, will be restructuring the team. That's going to involve some painful choices. I worry that Cousins can't be traded with that cap hit and someone would have to be willing to extend him to make a trade work. Also, I don't think the new regime will want to risk an extension. The GM and coach have 4 year contracts. If they extend Cousins, then their jobs are tied to his ability to win games with a diminished roster. So, the Vikes will be stuck with him for another year.
As a result, they trade Dalvin Cook. The RB position is not one you want to have large contracts on. Also, cut Michael Pierce. That gets you under the cap, but just a little. So, the vikes will have to cut or trade at least one of the following players: Thielen, Harrison Smith, or Kendricks. That's a tough choice as they all contribute. I'd say they probably trade or cut Thielen and Smith as the two older players. That saves about 11 million additional in cap space. At that point, the vikes can add a player or two (mid-level contracts) and sign draft picks. Let's say they get a third round pick for Harrison Smith. Something less for Thielen -- maybe a 4th. A 2nd for Cook.
Draft: 1. Ahmad Gardner, CB. Will the new regime take a risk on a player like Malik Willis?
2. Lewis Cine, S.
2. Kenneth Walker, RB. Walker and Mattison in the backfield. 3. Wan'Dale Robinson, WR. Also played RB, so a combo player that this coaching staff will use. 3. Nik Bonitto, LB. Fits in the new 3-4 scheme.

March 7, 2022. Post Combine
At looks like Rogers will stay in GB. This increases the likelihood of a Cousins trade. Desperate teams will take action. Let's say Denver gives a 1st round pick for him. Seems high, but once Rogers announces he is staying in GB, a bidding war will commence. If that happens this week, then the Vikes will be under the salary cap without taking other action. I still think long-term unloading Cook's contract is smart. But veteran's will be key next year as many young players will be starting. Vikings likely sign a mid-tier QB (Bridgewater of Marriota).
1a. Gardner, CB
1b. Trade back with Steelers and pick up a 2nd rounder for next year. Need draft capital for next year. 1b. (at 20) Nakobe Dean, LB 2. Kenneth Walker, RB. Preparing for the departure of Cook.
3. Myjai Sanders, DE/OLB

Well, Cousins is not traded and it looks like the Vikings are trying to retool and win this year. Gambling on Zadarius Smith on a 1-year 9 million dollar deal. Pushing contracts into the future on Hunter, Thielen, and Cousins. If they don't win, there will be a minor hangover.
1. Trent McDuffie. CB. It looks like they will have to draft this position. 2. Jalen Pitre. CB. Two additions might not be enough.
3. Wan'Dale Robinson. WR. A combo player for the new offense.

I'm wondering where the new administration will go. They might look for value. I'm leaning that way at the moment as a guess.
1. Jameson Williams, WR. This is long-term thinking. Theilen is on the hook, but could be gone after the 2023 season. Jameson doesn't play much in 2022, but is ready to go in 2023. Also provides some insurance in case a long-term deal with Jefferson is not possible.
2. Roger McCreary, CB.
3. Wan'Dale Robinson, RB/WR. This is a player to fill a unique position.
4. Cole Strange, G/C. Probably depth at C. But possibly start.

They trade back. I believe they want more picks in 2021 and 2022. They could trade back and get better value. Particulary if Stingley or Gardner are not there at 12.
1. Jameson Williams. WR. Trade back to 16 or 17 and pick up 3rd. 2. Roger McReary, CB. The new coaches will start a rookie on defense. 3a. Nik Bonnito, LB 3b. Cameron Jurgens, C.

April 25, 2022.
My thinking is if they can get one of Stingley, Jameson Williams, or Jermaine Johnson, they will take the pick. Otherwise trade back. I think at least one of those will be available. My guess is that it is Stingley.
1. Stingley. CB 2. Sky Moore. WR 3. Cam Jurgens. C
Later round selections: TE, LB, S

4/28/2022 Draft Day 12:42pm
It looks like the Vikes are generating some interest for their pick. The WRs will be in demand. There will be trades. They move back with Philly at 15, get Philly's 15, 3rd and 4th round picks for the 12th pick and two 6ths (191,192). That's a little lopsided to the Vikes, but Philly is trying to block KC or GB from getting their guy, so they overpay a little.
1. Jermaine Johnson. DE.
2. Sky Moore, WR. Low drop rate. Brings a different dimension. 3a. Cam Jurgens, C.
3b. Marcus Jones, CB and kick returner. Worst case, special teams player. Best case, plays some corner.
