Odorizzi on the hill against a scrub the Tigers are putting out there (Turnbull) with a 3-15 record. Must win because the Indians have Clevinger going against the White Sox.

Other than a 1st inning double leading to a run scoring SF, Odorizzi has been nearly perfect through 6. Twins didn't wake up until the 7th and now lead 2-1 with runners still aboard and no outs. Rosario delivers a base loaded double for 2 more runs. Twins now up 4-1 but Odorizzi had some kind of problem with what appeared to his hand or elbow so he had to come out. Tiger announcers later said the Twins reporting that Odorizzi felt a strain in his hammy.
For reasons unknown, Baldelli calls on Gibson who sucked the last time he pitched in relief. Strikes out the side (Tigers swinging at pitches in the dirt) giving up 2 singles with runners at the corner in between but at least held the lead.
Meanwhile, the Indians on the strength of a 1st inning Grand slam lead the Pale Hose 5-0 in the 2nd.

I hate Gibson...and Bardelli After the Twins went down 1, 2, 3, Gibson gives up a lead off double followed by a 2nd one. Yet Bardelli left Gibson in.
Lugo hit the 2nd double and I noticed he went to his helmet (1 hand or 2) before Gibson threw. Looked to me like he was stealing signs to give the edge to the hitter who hit a routine ground out that nevertheless got Lugo to 3rd. But, Gibson stranded Lugo at 3rd and got out of the inning.
4-2 Twins after 8.

Rogers pitches a perfect 9th to earn the save. Twins win 4-2 while the Indians continue to maintain their pace now up 8-0 v. the Sox. Magic number down to 2 with 5 to play for each team. Have to figure the Nationals will beat the Indians at least once during their season ending 3 game set but then again the Indians could go undefeated in which case the Twins have to win at least 2 to close this thing out and win the division crown.

I'm sure the reason Baldelli used Gibson in relief there was to get him some more experience coming out of the bullpen. Come playoff time I think the only 2 starters he will rely on to throw more than 2-3 innings will be Berrios and Odorizzi. So get ready for a lot of bullpen days if the Twins are fortunate enough to advance in the post-season.

Darren Wolfson @dwolfsonkstp 25m
The #MNTwins best current starter, Jake Odorizzi, is said to be doing ok this morning. Leaving his start last night early had a lot to do with cramps.

Twins were held in check and down 1-0 until the 7th when Rosario hit a 3 run HR and then Arraerz hit a 2 run job in the 8th. Dobnak did a great job staying ahead of the hitters and only gave up 1 hit and 1 run thru 6. Duffey and May followed and threw scoreless innings respectively. So it's the bottom of the 9th & last chance for the Tigers to pull it out against Littel.

Twins win 5-1 while the Indians are down 3-1 v. the Sox in the 3rd.
If the Indians lose tonight, the Twins clinch the Division.

I understand that thought process but if Gibson is going to come in out of the bullpen, use him in long relief. Not in a tight ball game (4-1 when he came in) in the 7th and 8th where he gave up 2 hits each inning and was lucky to only give up 1 run (back-to-back long doubles).

Indians lose 8-3 to the Sox. Twins clinch the division and can NOW afford to set up their pitching rotation going into the playoffs giving some starters and relievers (along with every day players) an extra day or 2 of rest.
Congrats to all the players who made this season fun to watch and I'm looking forward to seeing the Twins playing in their 4th WS (saw all 3 of their previous appearances). I lived in Minneapolis as a boy in '65 when the Twins coulda/shoulda/woulda beaten Sandy Koufax in game 7 of the series against the Dodgers but for heroics by their 3rd baseman who made incredible plays on hard hit balls down the 3rd base line with runners at 1st and 2nd and no outs in 2 separate innings. Had either of those balls gone through, it would have been a whole different game and the Twins would have likely won IMO.

Twins beat the Tigers 10-4 in a rare afternoon matinee and became the the first team in MLB history to hit 300 homers (Schoop and Austudillo). Yankess have 299 so they'll reach that mark as well before the close of this season.
Smeltzer went 5 innnngs, gave up 10 hits and 3 runs for the win. Another reliever who shouldn't be used in the playoffs but appears all too often even though he sucks (Ryan Harper) gave up 2 hits and a run in his solo inning. All of the Twins regulars all got a day off save Schoop and Arraez.
On to the Royals for the final 3 game set of the season. Keep the momentum going, boys!

Indians shut out by the ChiSox 8-0. Now down 2 in the loss column to TB and 3 to the A's with a 3 game set v. the Nationals so they're probably done for the season.
