Morning Walkthrough notes : Vikings DT Jalyn Holmes watching walkthrough. He left practice early yesterday with injury. “These guys call him Gumby because he can lean, he can bend, he can slither.” - Coach Zimmer on Hunter Mike Zimmer on rookie tackle Olisaemeka Udoh: "He’s got great size, very, very athletic. Very smart. He’s done a good job. Obviously, he’s still working on technique and hand placement and all those things, but I think the coaches have been impressed with him.'' Rick Spielman said there will be “game type situations” tonight.
Update on the pre-practice kicks from Bailey: had one off the post, one wide left, and one from 56 yards where his plant foot slipped and he shanked it. Made everything else out of around 20 kicks, most of which were 40+ yards.
Rudolph not in pads tonight.
Ade Aruna still sitting out. Aviante Collins is here tonight after not attending yesterday's practice, but not in pads.
Cook and Jalyn Holmes not in pads tonight either.
First kickoff of the night at the Vikings practice returned by rookie WR Bisi Johnson.
Out on the field tonight is Vikings CB Bene Benwikere, signed earlier today. He's wearing No. 46.
Abdullah starting with the 1s
Curtis Cothran back practicing, getting some run with the 2's at 3T.
TE Irv Smith lines up in the backfield and then Kik Cousins completes about a 56-yard pass to Adam Thielen.
All 3 O line units back to what they have been most of camp except one exception: Storm Norton playing LT and Rashod Hill playing RT with the 2's. Had been the other way around most of camp.
Defense winning the past handful of plays until Mannion finds Hollins who got open with a nice double move on Boyd.
OLine Combos, left to right:
1s: Reiff, Elflein, Bradbury, Kline, O'Neill
2s: Norton, Dozier, Jones, Isidora, Hill
3s: Catalina, Keenoy, Edison, Samia, Udoh
Now, Kyle Sloter the Gunslinger uncorks a 40-some yard pass down the left sideline to Dillon Mitchell.
No tackling but looked like a nice run around left end by Vikings rookie RB Alexander Mattison.
And then Cousins throws deep for Stefon Diggs, who beats Xavier Rhodes while working back for an underthrown ball.
Nice blocking springs Henderson for a long run. Norton and Dozier leading the way.
Bailey kicks: 33 middle: ✔️ 39 left: ✔️ (low snap by McDermott) 45 right: ✔️ McDermott snapper, Wile holder.
Weatherly with a "sack" and a TFL already.
Xavier Rhodes wearing a “Rhodes Closed” black t-shirt under his jersey
NT Linval Joseph also still being held out of 11-on-11 work. With DT Jalyn Holmes also sidelined, and Shamar Stephen not up to team drills yet, it’s Hercules Mata’afa with the 1’s.
Sloter finds Mitchell on a long play action pass. Offense cooking so far.
Nate Meadors covering Badet with Epps right there over the top. Meadors tips it, Epps almost picks it, but Badet still makes the circus catch.
Mannion finds Zylstra for a TD in red zone. Great move on Boyd to get open on the post.
In a goal-line drill, Vikings third-stringer Kyle Sloter rolls out the QB draw for a 5-yard TD run.
Browning finds Bisi Johnson in the back corner on a crossing route. Nice touch throw. Sloter runs in for a TD on what might have been a designed QB draw.
First team defense held up well in red zone, but second and third team offense had lots of success.
Dan Bailey is 5/6 on field goals tonight: 3-3 with Kevin McDermott snapping and 2-3 with Austin Cutting at LS following red zone period. Bailey’s lone miss hit the right upright.
Ifaedi Odenigbo with the quick "sack." His excellent camp continues.
Eric Wilson intercepts Kirk Cousins pass across the middle. Defense looking for some revenge after being beaten on some long balls.
Griffen with the nice batted screen pass from Mannion.
Mike Boone beats Ben Gedeon to the edge
Bailey now 6/7 in live kicks tonight after nailing a 33 yarder. Cutting and Wile snapper and holder.
Sloter to Mitchell. James called for DPI.
The flags have been flying tonight on all these deep balls, so Mike Zimmer pulled a challenge flag out of his pocket on the latest DPI call and threw it on the field. He’s practicing.
Matt Wile uncorks a 62-yard punt that Chad Beebe catches at the 8.
Griffen jumps offside
Hercules Mata'afa at first-team three technique DT in team drills with Shamar Stephen still working his way back and Jalyn Holmes out. Jaleel Johnson at nose with Linval Joseph still not cleared for team drills.
47-yard punt by Matt Wile with Holton Hill returning.
Holton Hill getting punt return reps after Chad Beebe tonight, so Beebe must not have much competition for the job vacated by Marcus Sherels.
Ifeadi is having a great day vs Storm Norton, who is the second team LT
Pass rush is getting home a lot tonight. But when the QBs have time, they're hitting some deep passes on the secondary.
Matt Wile is punting really well for the second straight practice. Lots of hang time on his last few here tonight.
And Dru Samia just punched Karter Schultz in the face... mask
Browning has done well with play action and throwing on the run
Danielle Hunter works O'Neill for the sack.
Taylor almost hauls in a great one handed catch from Mannion. Boyd right there with the coverage.
Mike Boone on the sideline getting looked at with a leg injury
Mackensie Alexander with a little shove on Diggs after an incomplete pass that #14 didn't like one bit. Nothing comes from it other than some jawing.
Griffen and Hunter are teeing off tonight.
Mackensie Alexander staying with Beebe well; he's the only defender that has done so consistently in camp.
Bisi Johnson gets a look with the first team and drops a pass from Kirk Cousins.
The annual Xavier Rhodes-Stefon Diggs jawing has commenced. Don’t know what set either of them off but Diggs is yelling over at Rhodes on the sideline now.
Practice temporarily stopped because Alexander and Diggs are still barking at each other. Diggs apparently still heated about the shove from Mack.
WR Jeff Badet gets a kickoff return. Yes, no tackling, but he did look good on it.
As practice wraps up, Zimmer has some intense words for his charges. They were showing it for a bit on the big scoreboard but then cut out the feed after it was apparent that Zim was probably using some colorful language.

Udoh seems like the kind of guy you really need to stash on the PS, but given his physical talent, if he shows any real development it’s going to be very tough to sneak him thru

Udoh seems like the kind of guy you really need to stash on the PS, but given his physical talent, if he shows any real development it’s going to be very tough to sneak him thru Think it will be even harder to stash Watts... You are always going to have 2 or 3 spots on 53 man for guys who will be inactive but you protect for development... If Samia has to be one of those guys that is kept as inactive every week it will be hard for Udoh to fit in... If the Vikings keep Dozier and he is primary interior backup it makes it tougher... Starting 5, Hill, and Jones are locks imho... Vikes wil carry 9 or 10 OL... If Dozier and Collins get spots there is not room to carry Samia & Udoh on the 53 together... If the first week of camp is a suggestion then Dozier is in line to get a spot and be active most weeks...

Hill has been at RT most of camp... Collins had been LT with the 2's I had thought... Norton is replacing Collins at LT on the 2's... I am guessing it was Isadora-Jones-Dozier on the interior with the 2's?
P.S. Thanks for the update on line combos...

Odenigbo has proved me wrong this camp... Most of the guys I thought would do well have, and the ones I did not have not, but Odenigbo seems to be performing so far...
Rather Samia would up his game vs trying to be a tough guy... We have a lot more flex on the roster if he can be #8 OL then #9 on the 53 man...
Kinda of miss the old scrimmage setup for these Saturday nighters...

So was Boone the only notable injury for the practice?

Thanks for the camp posts. It's great to hear inside info again. Excited about Alexander helping boost our run game. Cook should be amazing if he can stay healthy and Cousins will truly benefit from this boost. Pass protection sounds like it could improve but Hunter and Griffin are pretty tough guys to handle. Great stuff.... thanks.
