Oh good. Finally the Vikings could draft their own version of Bubba Franks.
I have no idea if Pitts will or won't be a good pro, he did seem special in college but as someone else pointed out 1st round TEs often don't pan out. Just no way I can imagine them trading up to get a TE though when they have Rudolph's replacement already. If anything they'll likely move back in 1st round and go OG/DT and hope to pick up some more picks to replace their 2nd they lost.
He is a lot more Jimmy Graham then Bubba Franks in play style, but yeah. He is a really big WR you can put in line or H Back. I get the point but Franks is not a good comp.
I was just joking about taking a top 10 pick at TE that turned into a bust. Nothing about their playing styles.
As I said, I'll admit Pitts seemed very dominant at the college level but the history of 1st round TEs isn't great. Most recently Fant/Hockenson have been decent but not blowing you away with their stats like a Randy Moss. non-1st round TEs often do as well as the 1st rounders. Irv's stats for instance were lower on yards but he had 5 TDs last year (1 less than Hockenson, 2 more than Fant) while splitting reps with Rudolph.
In any case, I assume there's about a zero percent chance they would trade 3 picks for Pitts and 179. Maybe like 5% chance they'd take Pitts if he falls to them at 14. Just too many other pressing needs for this roster particularly along the lines.

And this is why I don't look at mock drafts anymore. These people doing these mocks usually don't look at rosters. Teams draft for value and need, and the people doing these mocks look at the draft in terms "slotting" players at certain positions in the draft. If they'd bother to actually look at rosters perhaps you could take them more seriously, but that requires a little time and effort.
And FWIW drafting TE"s in the first round has been, historically speaking, questionable. Many busts for a position that you can find an excellent players on the second day.
The Vikings have more position groups of need than at any other time since Zimmer has been here, but TE isn't one of them. I have my issues with Rick, but his history has been to draft for need in the early rounds and this year will be no different.

I like the Newman pick but he should go at least a round earlier then that by a round or so. Dude also needs to get up to date in that even though guy opted out his last college was Georgia and not WF. Also I know he is marked down as TE by position but Pitts is a lot like Jimmy Graham and essentially he is a big WR. Dude is on drugs though with that trade up scenario. He never played a down for Georgia, but technically he is entering the draft as being from Georgia. Newman is a great prospect for us to target. He could be a star or a wasted pick but the potential is there. I think teams will worry about spending a pick on him before the 3rd. He isn't NFL ready and hasn't played in over a year, but he has the tools. The fact he went to wake forest tells me he isn't dumb and from what I've seen he has the physical tools to be an NFL QB. The point is, he played football at Wake Forest, but transfered to Georgia and opted out, thus never playing at Georgia. Yeaj I do not see him going before the 3rd but mid 5th seems kind of late for Newman. Whoever made the mock actually put some thought behind it except for that trade up.

A weak connection between Rudolph release and Pitts trade up.
We actually were pretty effective when Rudy was out . Feel this writer is out of touch on Vikes. BPA would have been a better explanation at the pick but a trade up is where it goes awry.

If we draft Pitts....I'll <expletive> vomit. We have Smith and Conklin...we're set Well to be fair then I am guessing you are against drafting WR also since it would be adding to a strength? Myself I am just against trading up for him, but I would think it would be a giant mistake to pass on him at #14 if he were available. The only elite talent I am on the fence about is Parsons and I wouldn't roast the pick if he is drafted.
