May throws multiple meatballs until a HR is hit. 6-4 Twins. May was falling behind the count overthrowng his fastball but the HR hit off him was a pretty good curve ball that Devers "golfed" deep into the short RF stands. Yet, Baldelli left him in to finish the inning and gave him the next inning as well.
Then Duffy comes in and strikes out the 1st hitters on only 7 pitches (with excellent mechanics) but allows a double off a nice curve low in the zone that the hitter bounced into the stands (again down that short right field line). He gets yanked in favor of Dyson who promptly WP'd the runner to third and nearly gave up a run on a fly ball down the LF line when he supposed to be a ground ball specialist.
Baldelli has consistently preferred May out of the bullpen despite Duffy having better stats, better fastball without having to put something extra on it but having a much shorter leash than May has been given.
May gave up just the 1 hit in 1-2/3 innings. He threw 14 of 25 pitches for strikes. Duffy being replaced after just 11 pitches and Dyson throwing 13 pitches means they will both be available for tonight's game. To me that is preferable to having burned Duffy and Dyson, and leaving May available.

Grounds crew is rolling the tarp out at Fenway Park. Rain is expected to be relatively brief, but 7:10 start may be in danger.

Twins eeked out a 2-1 win despite only having 2 hits (got 9 walks including 3 in a row given up by 2 of their pitchers but left base runners galore stranding).
Indians lost to the Sox so the lead is now 7 1/2 games with 22 to play. Even if the Twins only .500 ball the rest of the way, the Indians would have to go at least 18-5 (they've played 1 less game) just to tie.
