Looks to me like a swing tackle. I thought they would go guard.
They might not be bluffing that they like Brandel.

Rouse is probably the first "head scratcher" pick given his position and apparent lack of upside. Hey, it's the 6th round. If the Vikings can find two guys in these last two rounds who can contribute anything it's a win. Always need a swing tackle. Smart went to Stanford and got an engineering degree and was an academic All American then xfered to Sooners to hone his football skills. Swing tackle was in play there.

After the 4th round, 80% of these picks have been unpredictable. Its a compliment to how the pre draft coverage and analysis for the top rounds have improved over the last 20 years and how things are quite a bit tough to pin point in the back half of the draft.

Vikings drafted him as a guard He is like 6'6" with 35" arms who has played LT pretty much his whole life? 35" arms are not an asset for an OG. Well, they are listing him as a guard. So, I don't know. I can tell you he did not give up a sack in 480 snaps

Didnβt we just trade away a developmental OT a year ago for a 6th?? Our swing last year was Udoh and then had to nab another swing when Udoh got hurt. Always need a swing in the pipeline. Backup C and swing are 2 very specific skill set spots.

They have been working Brandel at OG for over a year now almost exclusively.

I may not understand or agree with all the decisions we are making but we are definitely walking away with what appears to be some some good players for a change and itβs far and away the best draft on paper K has had! Kudos to him and Thank God!!

Didnβt we just trade away a developmental OT a year ago for a 6th?? Yep- Lowe, who they thought enough of to keep on the 53 his rookie year. Ended up starting at LT for the Patriots.

They got the exception last year on Udoh so he only counted for a bit above minimum on his cap hit so Lowe was excess at the time and was traded to Pats who actually had him starting games.
