I have thought on this a lot from even before the draft. I think the Vikings could move or move on from any of the other 3, but today is not the day to do that. You wait through TC and most of preseason and make sure the health situation is fine in the room. Darnold is easily movable especially with the Vikings taking on most of his cap hit regardless if JJM is playing and practicing better. If you have a plan to move to JJM early Mullens can start 1-4 games and do the lead in. If the plan is to have JJM sit most of the year you do not need Mullens as JJM is the backup to Darnold then. Hall doesn't matter anymore. Cold thing to say but what it is. They need 4 or 5 bodies for TC and preseason though. The one argument for moving on from Darnold before TC is that there will not be reps enough to get Darnold ready and JJM ready. Mullens doesn't need as many reps. I will not be shocked if a QB gets hurt somewhere and Darnold is moved during preseason.

Vikings are very thin on picks this year and next. IMO - not a good idea to keep dipping into future draft picks.

Darnald could likely fetch a 4th/5th but I agree with Roo⦠now is not the time. Value of any of these guys goes up when injuries occur and teams are desperate. Look at what we paid for Bradford when Teddy went down.

While Iβm not crazy about Darnold, heβs still better than anything we going to find in rnds 3 plus of this draft imo.
Chance of clicking is still the same IMO.

I think the only real consideration is if you could trade Mullens or Hall for a late pick. Darnold isn't going anywhere.

If the Vikings feel JJM is ready by end of preseason and someone comes knocking at the door with an offer of a mid round pick or picks you do not think they will listen? Darnold was a hedge and is a hedge.

Of course they would. Is it likely? I don't think so.

The idea that it's a crowded QB room is kind of dumb. Totally normal to go into training camp with 4 QBs and carry 3 into the season. Mullens and Hall have practically zero trade value. Hall is unproven and Mullens was a turnover machine who killed the Vikings playoff chances.
There will be a battle between Mullens and Hall for third QB. Cutting Mullens gives some cap savings so he probably goes.

βMullens is a good player, so one wonders if the Vikings could scoop up a Day 3 pick for his services.β
Ummmβ¦
They could maybe get a late pick for him, but I wouldnβt toss around the word βgoodβ that loosely.
