The Vikings are going to draft a QB in the 1st or 2nd rd this year and will need a bridge QB. They probably want it to be Kirk but if he’s too pricey than a guy like Darnold will be a one year option. Same with Tannehill or Brissett. Some of you guys are still under the fantasy that the Vikings will be contenders in 2024. It’s all about resetting g the roster and cap for 2025. Let’s say Cousins and Hunter leave and Vikings have to give up picks to get qb. How does that help in 25? The picks you traded can’t be used. Ok so you have cap room in 25. Most great players never reach free agency. You pay A+ money for B players. Some plan.

Frankly if the Vikings don’t want to sign Cousins, I’d rather take a swing at Mayfield who is a FA. Even coming off last year I’m not sure he gets more than a contract in the mid 20’s. Go D in Rd 1 and QB in Rd 2 and see what you have. If the rook is the real deal you trade away Mayfield and if the rook is a bust you at least have a serviceable QB. And if Mayfield continues to build off last year you have a 28 yr old QB who can play at a high level.
Here’s the thing… Darnald has never looked good. Mayfield at least showed something here and there and plays with heart and fire. If he ever learns to type with some touch he could be very good!

Maybe we slide back in the first and get picks for a trade up back into the first for our QB. We could get a QB that KOC likes that doesn’t require a trade into the top 3. But even a trade into the top 3 is manageable. Probably a 1st and 2nd in 2024 ans a first in 2025. Still leaves a lot of draft capital for next year and a ton of cap. Yes, a lot of guys get overpaid in FA but there are 10-15 A players that reach FA every year. We haven’t been in play for any of those guys for at least 5 years because our cap has been fucked. What’s your plan? Give Kirk another shitload of guaranteed money and hope that the next two years bring a different result than the past 6 years. I’ll pass.

I don't think Darnold is that much better than Mullens. He's not better than mullens

Can't be scared of a losing season happening when they are happening anyway. It's time to try another path after 50 years of futility. Trade up into the top three and get the QB you really want (Daniels).

Draft a damn top tier QB. Look to the future, instead of installing band-aids

IMO with Cousins wanting $45 a year GTD and JJ going to get 35+ a year GTD, they can only afford either/or, but not both. In which case, soyonara, Kirk-san. The only numbers that matter in that equation are 24 trumps 36 regardless of position.

Moving on from what? 1 playoff win in 6 years. I like Kirk but he had his shot. He got 6 years and $200 million scaroles and never came close to a SB. Not all his fault but he didn’t even get as close as Case Keemun did. KIrk’s window was 2018 and 2019 when we had a top 5 defense, Diggs, Adam, Rudy and a young Cook please a decent O line. The table was set and he squeezed out one playoff win. What’s that definition of insanity about trying the same thing and expecting a different result. Bringing back Kirk would be that definition.

He’s a good QB and a great guy but how does he get a pass for this team being barely average for 6 years. He’s the QB and by far the highest paid player in the team but the one playoff win has nothing to do with his play. Cmon, get real. Bring Kirk back for another 2-3 years at $35-40mm per and you can lock in 3 more seasons of 7-9 wins. Enjoy.

That’s the market rate these days.
