Cousins has played very well the last 2 years. As well as he can behind this putrid offensive line. Kirk is getting older, and past his prime. The Vikings need to look ahead to the future, and pull the trigger on a franchise QB Cousins will be coming off a serious injury. Will he be able to pick up where he left off? A big question mark. Sign Cousin's to a 2 year cap friendly deal if he will accept it, and groom the new franchise QB, and see how it works out.

No, youโre just supposed to build the core of your team around proven UFAs like Marcus Davenport and Chris Reed. Iโve never said that Shawn, what I have always said is that cousins is better than the crapshoot cheerleaders have always said. we have a top 10 quarterback what we need is an offensive line and a defensive line..com Point is everything has an element of risk. Youโve spoken of free agency and the proven players as having greater interest to you. Free agency has its own significant degree of risk. Bringing back Cousins now has a growing risk. If you fear risk, youโre sunk.

You have to have a quarterback, and he is the only quarterback that we could possibly have that is at his caliber. Of course, free agency is better than the draft, that is a no-brainer. Free agency is real and NFL players, not a bunch of amateurs that we think may be good. At this point Kirk is way better than any amateur you could ever hope to pick.

The thing about Kirk was you absolutely had to nail all the first/second round draft picks you make or get really lucky with a lot of late round guys when you pay one guy 40-45 million a year for several years.
Spielman did not. Kwesi absolutely has not so far.
That's not Kirks fault, but it's also not fixable if you pay him any more than 20-25 million a year for a couple years at most.
The lack of defensive talent is glaring every week. There are two competent corners on this entire roster. Evans is ass, Booth is ass. Cine is a bust. Asamoah is a bust. Mike Hughes was a bust, Gladney rest his soul was a hell of a bust.
Same for the o line. Bradbury is very average, Cleveland was very average, O'Neill is overpaid and does not look any better than Quessenberry to be honest. Ingram is average.

But in my mind when you have a QB like Kirk you have to keep upgrading your line play. It is the only way to win

And that is not a knock on Kirk, that means when you have a quarterback, that good, you have to have line play

You guys realize that in todays NFL the Vikings have an average OL, right? This is what a middle of the pack OL looks like.
Kirk had the roster in 18' and 19' and did not get it done. Expecting him to improve in his late 30's coming off a major injury is just crazy.
Look they can bring Kirk back and get in the playoffs next year and have some nice stats, but I just do not see a SB roster with him on the team.
Some point they have to try and reach for the brass ring and hit a home run with a QB in the draft.

Free agency has just as much risk as the draft. There have been too many real NFL players as you call them be just as big, and much more expensive, busts as the draft.

So tell me about the savior who is coming from the pool of amateurs? ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ I'll take that challenge. Cousins will be 36 before the start of the 2024 season and he is coming off a ruptured achilles. That is a serious injury, especially for an NFL player in his mid 30's. He may be ready for OTAs and TC, and he may not be, neither physically nor mentally. The probability is high he will, but not nearly approaching 1. Even if he returns fully recovered in every respect, there are other questions involved. First, his injury was non-contact. Are there physical weaknesses that didn't show up before? Second, Kirk has been beaten half to death over his 8 years in purple. Is this massive accumulation of painful hits finally going to shatter him like brittle glass during some important game? It only takes one hit to end an NFL career, and I strongly suspect KC's body and bones might be reaching the point of "metal fatigue," if you will pardon a mechanical engineering expression. So with these facts and suppositions in mind, who will be our amateur savior? Well, yeah, he will come from that "pool of amateurs" you so offhandedly denigrate, because that's the same "pool of amateurs" who have provided the "amateurs" who have gone on to fill the Pro Football Hall of Fame over the last century. His name doesn't matter at this point, but the Vikings need and hopefully will draft one of those "amateurs" this coming April, and he will go on to a career that will send him to the Hall of Fame some 20 -25 years from now. There are 36 QBs in the Hall of Fame now. There will probably be 40+ by the time our "amateur" has his chance. You can sneer and I'll dream. We'll see who enjoys this pool of former "amateurs" more. Won't be you. "Canton, 2045! SKOL!!

I have become a big Kirk fan but lets not pretend that he is ELITE just because we have watched horrible QBs the last few weeks.
Yes, every draft pick is a gamble especially at QB.
Yes Kirk is 36, coming off injury and everyone loses to father time.
