I get what she's saying. However, how far would the Vikings have gone last year if their defense was even average? You have an entire unit (the defense) that is 31st in the league and you blame it all on Kirk. It just doesn't smell right. I don't buy the "it's all Kirk's fault." Worse QBs have won in the Super Bowl. Do I want the Vikings to work toward moving on from Kirk? Yes! He's an above average to good QB making top 5 $$. Top 5? Highest NFL QB salaries in 2023 Here are the salary rankings for the top-20 quarterbacks based on average annual value, per Spotrac. 1. Aaron Rodgers (Packers): $50.3 million (3-year, $150.8 million contract) 2. Russell Wilson (Broncos): $49 million (5-year, $245 million contract) 3. Kyler Murray (Cardinals): $46.1 million (5-year, $230.5 million contract) 4. Deshaun Watson (Browns): $46 million (5-year $230 million contract) 5. Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs): $45 million (10-year $450 million contract) 6. Josh Allen (Bills): $43 million (6-year $258 million contract) T-7. Matthew Stafford (Rams) $40 million (4-year $160 million contract) T-7. Dak Prescott (Cowboys): $40 million (4-year, $160 million contract) T-7. Daniel Jones (Giants): $40 million (4-year, $160 million contract) 10. Derek Carr (Saints): $37.5 million (4-year, $150 million contract) 11. Kirk Cousins (Vikings): $35 million (1-year $35 million contract)
12. Jared Goff (Lions): $33.5 million (4-year $134 million contract) 13. Lamar Jackson (Ravens): $32.4 million (1-year, $32.4 million contract) 14. Matt Ryan (Colts): $30 million (5-year $150 million contract) 15. Ryan Tannehill (Titans): $29.5 million (4-year $118 million contract) 16. Geno Smith (Seahawks): $25 million (3-year, $75 million contract) 17. Jameis Winston (Saints): $14 million (2-year $28 million contract) 18. Trevor Lawrence (Jaguars): $9.19 million (4-year $36.79 million contract) 19. Joe Burrow (Bengals): $9.04 million (4-year $36.19 million contract) 20. Zach Wilson (Jets) $8.8 million (4-year, $35,150,681 million contract) There are teams that have spent years failing to draft or sign an above average to good QB.

How are they going to do that? Kirk has a no trade clause so who would be agree to go to? Ok, they get the trade approval from Kirk, didn't they put void years on his contract, does that go with the trade? They have to sign Jefferson, how can the Vikings afford Jackson and Jefferson with the cap? Maybe all of that can be done but I don't see anyone saying how it can be done. It all hits now if traded before June 1st and the voids hit next year if Kirk is traded after June 1st.

Good List!
So, in it's review, I would point out three guys on rookie contracts for production vs. investment and just ignore Kirk Cousins for now...
Murray, Lawrence, Burrow.
Great returns currently on the latter two, although there was some ramp up time needed with Trevor. Erratic with flashes on Murray who is just a touch too small anyways to stay healthy and he cost way too much!
But just averaging them out - and you see a model I would believe will be followed here to replace Cousins before Father Time does. Get the rookie either this season or next, have him playing full time no later than their 2nd season in Purple and reap the benefits which should allow necessary contract extensions to your stud OT, Edge, CBs, and obvious WR (here for the Vikes).
Its the sensible model and still changes out Cousins who is 11-18 in Prime Time games - this is a trend that has to stop or the same results for playoffs are all they will get past this season.

I honestly donβt get the heavy breathing for Lamar. The kid had a great 2019 but has been regressing since with missing 10 games over the past two years. No way I trade two first plus fork over $40-50mm a year for this guy. The league figures out running QBs. The team that bites on this kid is screwed.

"Kirk Cousins, he's a starting quarterback in this league." is the most Maddenesque sentence I've heard since he hosted MNF 18 years ago. I'm waiting for another Yogi Berra of the NFl gem from Erdahl. Maybe it'll be Madden's most cogent proclamation, "At the end of the game the team with the most points on the board is going to win" will be next. We can only hope.

Dumbest post of the year. Anyone that thinks Lamar is going to make more of Jefferson is simply insane. Lamar hasnβt done an more than kirk, is injured way more if the timeβ¦ and all this βhe didnβt hsvexsny rd riversβ beβ¦ maybe itβs because anyone who is a decent receiver doesnβt want to go to Baltimore and have Lss as mar in charge of their well-being!!

The point she was trying to make is they need to take a chance because they aren't getting to the super bowl with Cousins, she's probably right about that, but I don't know if Jackson and giving up what would take to get him would be much better. For an example, Monte Ellis was traded by the Warriors in 2012 and most of their fans went bonkers, I was of the belief that they made the right move cause they weren't going anywhere with him anyways and they hadn't been past the second round of the playoffs in 37 years. They needed to take a chance.

For cap reasons even if we are in on Lamar for cap reasons it would be nigh on impossible to make the move before June. I think they will let the draft play out and then make a decision. If I were a betting man I would lay odds on Kirk being the QB in 2023. Anything can happen, but if they make a move that involves trading Kirk it has to be done in June and has to be to a team he is willing to move to. Kirk would go to the 49ers and the only other suitors I can think of off the top of my head would be Indy or Atlanta. Indy seems lined up to draft one of the top 3 QB's and not sure Kirk would agree to Atlanta? Kirk gets to pay Michigan income tax on at least 11 games a season, none of the Texas or Florida teams seem to be interested, Indy would allow him a chance to keep his home game tax rate lower they are drafting a QB though, and San Fran is the only place he would take the high tax rate to play I think. He is not getting traded to an NFC North team, no Ohio teams need him, and that leaves Indy as the only option to maintain his tax rate and closeness to home in Michigan. That really leaves very few places he would be willing to go.

There could even be a possibility of the Vikings sending draft picks to the Niners for Lance and keeping Cousins for this year, now that the niners picked up Darnold and are installing Purdy as the starter.
