I think the D is in such good shape we should target RB in round 1 Knock it off. Sorry dad. While I have been sent to my room... can you tell me what I am grounded for? Is it that I recently commented too many times on post regarding a single football topic, on a football message board, you could have easily ignored? Or, is it that I found some irony that some of the same posters are talking about how they need to address the defensive side of the roster?

Are you Hunter's agent? Real question. He's not great against the run. They ran at him a lot and with success. He often was getting washed out on his side. He'd be part of the tackle but 6 yards downfield. He ran down some runners running to the opposite side from behind but often was pushed around when it went to his side. Good? maybe. Great? no... just stop. Our entire D-line wasn't good, isn't good and probably won't be good against the run until we get penetrating interior linemen in there. We have no one inside that demands a double team. Hunter's best play last year was when he was upright. He's just not able to disengage like he used to since the neck injury so any head start is key for him. That's the biggest difference I've seen in his game pre/post surgery. He also attacks more upright than he did before. You realize Hunter has always been a top run defender at his position right? It is one of the things that separates him from other DE/OLB players. By any metric he is and always has been one of the gold standards at his positions vs the run. You say things like you watch the games, but you obviously do not. Hunter is one of the main reasons teams this past year and often during his career run to the left side in a right side run dominant league. Maybe it was because the rest of the defense was falling apart you did not notice, but the last 8 games or so of the season he was playing some of his best football as a Viking. I remember, before the neck surgery, he was a good run defender in a scheme designed to focus on the run with much better interior defensive linemen. Post injury he gets washed out a lot and has a lot of trouble disengaging blockers. One thing I do know for sure... seasons are longer than 8 games. I like Hunter and I think he's one of the better players on our defense. I'm just not in the camp that he's a top 5 DE anymore. You seem to post the exact same post every time anyone questions anything about him. As for me not watching the games. I just watched 3 of last 5 games fast forwarding though the defensive possessions and I'll stand by my assertion he's not doing well disengaging and gets washed out a lot... a lot more than he used to.

I think if the Vikings can trade down with the Saints in the first round and get their first and second round picks, then draft two defenders DL or CB- WR in first and take LB Sanders in the second round pick. Lots of players that should be good in that second round.

Clearly what we had wasn't working. Slow linebackers, couldnt stop the run, couldnt cover down field for shit.
I'll hold out hope that, somehow, the draft adds some impactful rookies. On paper, this defense isn't any better, just younger with more question marks.

Metrics say he is still a top 10 pass rusher and an even better run defender. His only issue was the first 8 or 9 weeks he was not getting to the QB very much for sacks, but his pressure rate & run defense were sound the whole season. 21' he was playing at All Pro level before tearing a muscle. The muscle tear was not connected to his neck. You can want something to be true, but it doesn't make it true. That also is not to say he will not have issues with his neck in the future, but so far I have not seen any signs of it being an issue the last 2 years.

It's going to take a couple years to rebuild this defense.
I don't expect much from it this season
