Reagorβ¦Blacklockβ¦Davenport. The All-Potential team. We can get more out of them! Davenport has had an assortment of injury issues.
Reagor and Blacklock have issues between their ears.

"In the past four seasons, Davenport has a pressure percentage of 14.8 (via TruMedia). That ranks 10th among pass rushers with at least 800 pass rush snaps in the span."

Can play when healthy.
Young, with pass rush ability. I like it.

Terrific size, had a real good senior year and then cracked a 4.6 40 at the combine.
Hasn't done much since. A first round bust so far. Hope the salary is not guaranteed.
He did have 9 sacks in 2021

What, you guys expected Kwesi to steal Miles Garret from the Cowboys for about 2 mil and a "pretty please?"
Someday you'll figure out that nothing they do this year is about 2023. It's ALL about 2024. That 13 mil will have zero dead money in '24, along with every other cut and release this year. They haven't designated a single June 1st cut, they're not extending Cousins for another year, and they're signing place holders whenever they can. 2023 is all about cleaning out the cap mess Spielman managed. Yeah, I know, Rob Brzezinski is the Viking capologist, but RS was the GM. You can bet RS told him who to extend and, like any employee, he did what the boss told him to do.
I find the comments in this thread very disingenuous. Half the handles I see above led the charge against "signing so many guys to second undeserved contracts" and "letting the guys who underplayed their contracts go" complaining when they sign an obvious plug-in to enable them to field a team, yet clear all the clutter from the cap.
I cancelled my subscription to NFL+ because there isn't a single game in the last 3 years I care to re-watch. I suppose I could re-watch the last quarter or last 5 minutes of 13 games from 2022, but nah, no fun. 2023 is likely going to be similar, but if it leads to a great 2024, well, it's about f'n TIME someone gets their head out of their rectum and gets it DONE. I've waited 62 years for it, so the phrase isn't "Wait until next year," it's "Wait until next next year."
I'm old. I get to rant. Get off m'lawn!

Agree SkolVike folks here are hypocrites every same year same B.S with folks here. Like they know how to run a team no matter who they sign folks will cry here doesn't matter who the Vikings sign I'm glad folks here know how to be a GM. It's all about next year where we won't be In debt.

Well they could roll the 13M instead into 24' cap or could have signed 1 or 2 other guys for the same money. Davenport signing is taking a shot at catching lightening in a bottle with a young guy, while trying to put a competitive product on the field this year, all the while as you say keeping the way clear in 2024. Davenport is kind of a half measure signing. I now expect both Z and Cook to be gone now due to this signing.

Yeah, we certainly could roll that money into '24, but the fact remains there are 53 bodies needed to fill 53 purple uniforms come September. It appears the head shed is spending the '23 cap and not a dime more, which means many of these guys are going to be, shall we say, slightly less than stellar? Even at the exorbitant salaries NFL players command, you get what you pay for even on that scale. You're not going to buy a Stradivarius for the price of a fiddle, and the Vikings are going to field a lot of fiddles this year. It's going to be fun to see who turns into a Strad, because there will almost always be one, like Shelly did last year. But WINS might become dear in '23 with that strategy. Patience, patience, uber alles. There shall be a 2024. (Well, if Putin doesn't nuke our a$$es...)

Reason he is high on most free agent lists was 32 QB hurries. Smith was good half a season and now pushing his way out for more money. What we have a bad habit of is using FA for quick fixes that slows the growth of younger players and our rebuild, plus takes from our cap. If Davenport plays well he is gone next year. If injured, misses lots of time or does not play up to his salary then he is also gone. That $13M is going to kill our cap this year and could of been used to improve this team for multiple years. It looks like GM and coaches look short term which gives them job security.

Overpaid, injury prone, underperformer.
He can sit on the sideline in street clothes with Cine & Booth.

They have to not look they are tanking the season because the majority of sports fans are impatient. Davenport is on a proven contract and he is banking on himself. They need serious capital for JJ and Darrisaw who are both going to break the bank.
