Why is it year after year the Vikes can never identify a starting QB in draft? Had many chances to get one but Whiffed no matter who was in charge?

Ponder was a bust, and an overreach in the Vikings draft.
Bridgewater has played for 6 teams.
Neither player was anywhere close to elite.

Only a handful of teams identify a true franchise QB in the draft. Way more draft day QB misfires than hits. Not here to rehash the Daunte debate but he was the last QB they drafted that did anything. Since then they have averaged drafting at 21st overall. Not exactly a wealth of franchise QBs drafted historically in the 20's.

The Kansas City Chiefs selected Mahomes in the first round (10th overall) in the 2017 NFL Draft.[51] The Chiefs, originally slated to have the 27th overall selection, traded up in the draft with the Buffalo Bills for the 10th overall selection. The Chiefs traded their first round pick and a third round pick in 2017, and the Chiefs' first round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft for the selection.[52] He was the first quarterback selected by the Chiefs in the first round since selecting Todd Blackledge seventh overall in the 1983 NFL Draft.

Cousins is aging. Vikings are going to have to consider a QB of the future at some point. Spielman had a habit of regurgitating has been QB's. Trading for Sam Bradford was costly, and didn't come close to working out. Their hope rested on Bridgewater becoming the franchise QB. The horrific injury ended that, and he never ended up being that good.

Spellie was in charge for a LOOOOOOOONG time.
He failed mainly because he never built a dominant Oline or identified a star QB

And that's what we call anecdotal evidence. For every Mahomes there's dozens upon dozens of misfires. Again more teams fail to find a true franchise QB in the draft than succeed.
