Not getting rid of as many as people hope or think, They will need to get cap space, add some FAs and draft a few. They will not blow up a 12-4 team. Look for small changes in targeted areas.

Cousins contract. All roads lead there.
We hired KOC, because he’s offensive minded and can win with Cousins
We invested massive draft capital on the OLine over the years to protect Cousins
We designed a bend don’t break defense, because we can’t afford a better strategy because of money invested in the offense and Cousins.
We need this mythical perfect kicker because Cousins can’t get touchdowns.
Blame blame blame the coaches, kickers, both Lines, the entire defense …but all roads point to Cousins.
Don’t get me wrong, he is BETTER under KOC..but it’s not enough. He was supposed to be the “missing piece” to put us ove the top and that theory was a massive failure. We’re just back to that “decent” team level that comes up short against the better teams in the league.
You make a deal with the devil, one day he’ll come knocking. Fire all the coaches and cut all the kickers you want…one day…not today, not next month……but at some point..likely in the middle of next years brutal schedule when we’re 8-9..we’ll realize the construction and assets available to build a better team just isn’t realistic when you pay a mediocre QB top 3 money.

Cousins contract. All roads lead there. Kirk is now underpaid compaired to other QBs around the league. He is currently the 10th highest salary $35M with #9 $40M per year.

I hate to say it but,
Thielen is on borrowed time. That great body fake he used to have in his route running has turned into just a head fake that accomplishes nothing. Being a Detroit Lakes area summer resident I have thoroughly enjoyed his rise to success, but damn, "father-time" is unstoppable.

Cousins isnt the best but who could replace him? Oline still sucks, tackles ok but the guards and center need to go and need a CB and 2 DL and a new linebacker. Dont have shit for draft choices this year and cap issues. so what the hell can we do except get as much cap space as we can and find some FAs to fill gaps. And find a new Kicker. we need to win play off games. IF this don't happen expect a new staff in 2025 WE have enough receivers and RBs that need opportunities It starts with the lines. First one who needs to go is ED D.

Shouldn't be too hard to find a QB to throw it to wide open Justin Jefferson or a three yard check down on 3rd and 9

We have 12 wins because of Cousins. We have come from behind to take the lead in 17 games on our last possession in the last 2 seasons with poor offensive lines and very poor defenses. I love the "Cousin's costing us a SB" posts. How many QB's would you take over him? Realistically, how do you get one of them? This is such nonsense. Let's talk about "not getting TD's". We came into the Packer Game 9 of our last 10 red zone possession getting a TD. We didn't get one after the blocked punt because of the line couldn't convert 1 of 2 runs from a yard out. Why isn't that on Cook in your twisted logic? This was the transition year. Most of the talent on this team was assembled for a different scheme, coach and staff. KOC didn't come here to groom a new QB and he was fully aware of Cousin's contract. My guess is he came here to build around Cousins and will. What we should do it trade Cook and Hunter to get picks and then look at Theilen, Kendricks and Irv Smith as cuts to create cap space and continue building the lines. Hunter is expendable IMHO because he's overpaid for his impact in this system. We need dominant interior linemen. The Defense need a ton of work just to get back to average. The offense is fine if we can get some starting caliber guards and a center. We could use a second starting receiver as well.

I think at this stage even if Ed goes, another 3/4 hybrid coach will brought in. Hunter should be traded for picks, by the time this D is turned around he’ll be well past his prime.

So if Cousins is so great and we have all these other holes to address simply by releasing and drafting, then our GM must be atrocious putting this roster together. So far, the way this guy drafts, It’s never going to happen.

Cuts: Kendrick, Hicks, Ham, Reed ( cap savings $20mm) Pay Cuts to stay: Adam, Harry and Cook ( savings $15mm) Not resigned: Pat Pete, Sullly Re-signed maybe: Bradbury modest deal 3 yrs $15mm Traded: Hunter to a 4-3 team. 2nd and 4th in 2023 and a conditional 3rd in 2024. Extended: Tomlinson

Extended: Tomlinson Cook isn't going to accept a huge pay cut to stay. Pat Pete has been our best CB this year, and he only cost about $3.2M this year. I think he signs on again next year. Hicks was brought in by this regime, and he's been an average NFL starter. If they can agree on a price, I think he's back. Kendricks is still good enough to be a backup or rotational player, IF he would agree to a huge pay cut. I agree that Ham, Sullivan and Reed are probably gone, but I think Adam is, too. Like Pat Pete, Harry is still the best S on the team. I think he's back. I agree that Tomlinson probably gets extended. Isn't Hunter a FA? If so, the Vikings cannot trade him.

Trade Cook and Hunter (I think he's signed through next year). Kendricks started this year strong but has been slipping the last several games. Cost is the key here. Theilen is most likely gone. He's having an OK year but isn't separating like he used to. Problem here is we don't have an option on the team.

Derek Carr 6-3, 210 31 Jimmy Garappolo 6-2, 225 31 Geno Smith 6-2, 221 32 I don't think there's a whole lot of difference between these three and Cousins other than age. Jimmy G gets hurt the most of them. All are about the same athletically, I always put Kirk at the bottom of that quotient next to the Bradys, Mannings, etc... If KOC and org want to change it out, there ya go. I'm ok if so or not. But if not, would need many more changes along the OL for Offense, and all three levels of the D.

Hunter has performed significantly better than Z Smith in the second half of the season and Smiths contract will become very large next year. It was written as if he was likely a one or two year player.
Also if they move on from Donatel and employ a 4-3 defense I don’t believe Smith would be a very good fit. He would likely have to become a pass rush down player.
