Indeed...Reports had Peyton Manning saying the Broncos loved McCarthy..but out of their control if they can get him..The article states not sure where Manning got his info. This just sound like an old fading NFL genius trying to preserve his standing by not admitting he was outplayed for his QB.. He should be more worried about the Jets in his conference....why would he care about the Vikings and conning them into moving up. www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/peyton-manning-says-broncos-are-very-interested-in-j-j-mccarthy/ar-AA1nB4IbKind of odd that the article says they are not sure where Manning got his information, since he won a Super Bowl with them, I am sure he has plenty of sources! Or maybe it was one of the people he interviewed with during his MNF bit with his brother? I would bet that Peyton Manning is tied into many organizations, at the very least the Broncos and Colts. Peyton appears to be well liked throughout the NFL players, media, and NFL owners. I wouldn't be surprised if he and/or his brother find a way to purchase a team at some point.

Vikings must have made a much better trade offer to the Jets. I'm sure the Broncos wanted JJM over Nix.

Go to you-tube and listen to the Pelissero clip on the rich eisen show regarding how we came to draft JJM at #10.
Very interesting for sure.

I already ranted on this, but Peyton would have to be a complete moron to get the Viking to help a team in Peyton's own conference.

Sean Payton looks like a burn victim who got a face transplant from a child Heโs just trying to save a bit of that smug, pursed lip face of his. He had to settle for QB#6. Atlanta taking Penix just threw a wrench in the works and all bets were off at that point. Atlanta caused the Vikes to move up 1 spot more than anyone. The threat of the Raiders jumping up was problem #2. I would have considered the Saints and Seattle bigger threats than Denver after that. Denver had no ammo.

I guess you'll never know... Ok.... Peyton Manning and George Paton are happy to have Sean Payton in Denver. As for me, I hope old butt-face fails.

I saw this full quote from him on a Broncos site and it's interesting. When I read the whole thing, he's basically admitting he thought Giants might take McCarthy. Then, Broncos, Vikings, and Raiders would have to make moves to get Penix or Nix. Three teams fighting for two quarterbacks.
But then Giants pass on McCarthy only to see Atlanta take Penix. So it ends up the same but with McCarthy/Nix still available. He never makes mention of Vikings or McCarthy because he doesn't want to admit Broncos lost out on a golden opportunity to get McCarthy. He only mentions worrying about the Raiders once the top five QBs were gone.
Maybe he wasn't taking a shot at Vikings. He was being facetious about being "actively involved in pretending", laughing about it because he knew it wasn't true. The later explanation shows his real thinking and I would bet Broncos, Raiders, and Vikings all were in contact with the Jets to make a move for McCarthy.
After the fact, why admit it? Of course they want Nix (and the fan base) to think he was their guy all along. In full context, I find myself cutting the guy a little slack:
"I was actively involved in trying to pretend we were moving forward. (laughs) In other words, itโs this time of the year. Itโs difficultโwe want to keep our options open. I would say this for a normal positionโand we talked about itโwhen weโre entering the draft, you might have needs at [pass] rush, edge, tackle or receiver. But when it comes to something this specific relative to the quarterback, you just donโt want others to know that this is their focal point. Oftentimes, you hear this, โWell, if they donโt get one here, they can go back and get this one.โ I heard those same commentsโwhen the Chiefs selected [QB] Patrick [Mahomes] and you go back and tune into everything, it was said, โWell, they could have got him later.โ No, they couldnโt have. Letโs not worry aboutโand we all understand managing the draft, but letโs worry about what itโs going to look like three years from now. Three to four years from now, this class will be judged. Make sure we get the right guy there. I agree 100 percent. We were talking about a couple moves and then when Atlanta took Penix, now it was like, โHoly cow. Do we have to go up?
So we were paying attention to where the Raiders are. It was a tough 10 or 20 minutes. New York was the team. If New York took a quarterback, we knew thenโif the three in the front took theirs, New York would have been the surprise team, and then thereโs three waiting for two. Once New York cleared, Iโm sure every team we are talking about felt all right. Then Atlanta took a quarterback and thatโs the fun part about the draft. You canโt dive into everyoneโs draft room to know how they feel about someone."

Then Falcons made their pick and changed the math. People keep forgetting Rams and Seattle were also supposedly interested in the QB's. Also to be honest they do not sound as jazzed or enthused as one would expect. More like they are trying to explain the pick. Let me add they are saying they like the player and no talk about the future of the franchise.

Heโs a Payton, Gruden system fit with a better arm than anyone seems willing to give him credit for. If he proves capable of processing at NFL speed he could be very good.
